Please help me find an online game for practicing US states & capitals. My DD needs some practice on this before her test at the end of this school year.

have you tried the animaniacs song?? That was the popular way back in school for me. You can find it on you tube.
i remember in fifth grade learning the presidents that way.
school house rocks was also a good way to learn. Who doesn't know "conjuction junction what's your function? Hooking up words clauses and phrases."??

It's not an on-line game, but we bought DD "Sequence - states and capitals" at Target. She enjoys playing and doesn't realize she is learning at the same time.

On the off chance that you have a smartphone on the android network, I downloaded a free app for my dd to practice with. It quizzes her on the state capitals.

My kids don't play online but love the game sequence with capitals (found it at Target)

How ambitious are you, mom?

When I was a kid in school, there were no computer games :cool2: so our teacher had a map of the US on a sheet of paper, minus the actual states, but with filled in stars where each capital CITY is. We also got a Ziploc of cut out STATES in the actual SHAPE with the state written on it.

We would use that tacky putty stuff, and attatch each state to the map, and do this daily. The seeing, "Oh, this is Florida! I'll attatch it to Tallahassee," really helped, and at the same time, you learned WHERE the state was, which was also what we were quizzed on!

You could make one of these yourself. It actually was really fun!

I second the animaniacs song. It's very catchy. I still remember all of it. And it came out like 15 years ago

I've got to agree with this. We had to learn the states/capitals and the presidents in my college American Government class, and I ended up burning 20 CDs for my classmates to help them learn this. It was quite funny to hear people humming the songs right before the final...

I have a huge map of the USA from the Dollar Tree,
with the lyrics to "Wakko's America" printed next to it.
My son & I sing the song regularly!
Only "con" is that there's no particular order to the list,
but it's easy to look at a state after memorizing the song
& have the capital (with the tune) pop into your head :)
I also tacked an alphabetical list on the same wall to
help with additional memorization.

It is sung to the tune of "Turkey in the Straw."

Baton Rouge Louisianna, Indianapolis Indiana,
and Columbus is the capital of O-hi-o.

There's Montgomery Alabama,
south of Helena Montana
then there's Denver Colorado,
and Boise Idaho.

Texas has Austin
then we go north,
to Massachusetts Boston
and Albany New York.

Tallahassee Florida
and Washington D.C.,
Sante Fe New Mexico and Nashville Tennessee.
Elvis used to hang out there a lot, you know.

Trenton's in New Jersey north of Jefferson Missouri,
You got Richmond in Virginia,
South Dakota has Pierre,
Harrisburg's in Pennsylvania and Augusta's up in Maine,
and here is Providence Rhode Island next to Dover Deleware.

Concord, New Hampshire, just a quick jaunte,
to Montpelier, which is up in Vermont,
Hartford's in Connecticut so pretty in the fall,
and Kansas has Topeka
Minnesota has St. Paul.

Juneau's in Alaska and there's Lincoln in Nebraska
and it's Raleigh out in North Carolina, and then,
there's Madison Wisconsin and Olympia in Washington,
Pheonix Arizona
and Lansing Michigan.

Here's Honolulu, Hawaii's a joy
Jackson Mississip-pi
and Springfield Illinois,
South Carolina with Columbia down the Way,
and Annapolis in Maryland on Chesapeake Bay,
They have wonderful clam chowder.

Cheyenne is in Wyoming and perhaps you make your home in
Salt Lake City out in Utah where the buffalo roam.
Atlanta's down in Georgia and there's Bismark North Dakota,
and you can live in Frankfurt in your own Kentucky home.

Sa-lem, in Oregon, from there we join,
Little Rock in Arkansas,
Iowa's got Des Moines
Sacramento California,
Oklahoma and it's City,
Charleston West Virginia
and Nevada Carson City.

That's all the capitals, there are!

That's the animanics song...

It's always funny hearing other kids humm a tune to remember stuff.
