Hi y'all!
I need your help.. When I booked my room, DH was really excited about the AoA LM rooms. He said that they "screamed Disney" to him. So I went along with it, even though I knew that they had been excluded from discounts in the past!

Then this came out today: http://www.wdwinfo.com/discounts/discounts-resorts.htm#visa

With this: This offer excludes Bay Lake Tower, The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Polynesian Villas, Little Mermaid standard rooms at Art of Animation Resort, campsites and 3-bedroom villas. All discounts are subject to availability, certain restrictions apply.

I have already talked to him about changing resorts when the discount becomes available to the public. He says he is disappointed, but understands.

What is a good resort replacement for DH's AoA LM room? He has spoken A LOT about wanting to stay in the CBR Pirate rooms, but GF here is used to a Sealy Posturepedic! I can't sleep on a 4" thick glorified cot for 8 nights! I also thought about the new POR Royal Guest rooms. However, the issue with a mod is that this lady is on a budget! I would much rather do a value, which is why I did AoA in the first place.. So I'm back to Pop. But is that very special??

Thank you guys for the help! I want to make this trip really magical for the hubs and I! We've had a trying last couple of years and need a vacay, man!!

Pop is just fine....I really like it there. It's bright and colorful. I do like to get a room a bit further out rather than close to the food court or pool. It's nice and quiet.

personally i'd suggest just staying at pop century.
this way you get the discount, are not paying a lot more to stay at a moderate resort, and you can very easily walk over to AoA to explore.
besides while the LM rooms are nice there's nothing really "special" about them. they are just like pop century's rooms but with different paint, carpet, and table.
the real special part is the detail outside all over the hotel.
and actually i stayed in LM and i hated the walk to the bus and the lack of light at night throughout the grounds.

I got my POR room for about $140 a night with the discount that was being offered, which is only a few more $ a night than the LM rooms. I started out with a LM room and when they published the discounts I moved over to POR, it was only about $150 more for a week, I am on a budget too but I will pay $150 to move over. I love POR.

I would suggest Pop, there is a walkway right over to AoA, so you can still walk around and experience the beauty of the resort without even staying there.

If I were to pick a value other then AoA to stay at, I would pick Pop, it always seems the most popular among DISers and I think the theming is great.

Good Luck with your decision, I know it can be a hard one but once that is done the worst part is over!!!

Enjoy! :)

Since he remarked that LM screamed Disney I'd say take a look at all star movies. That resort is based on earlier movies but how much more disney can you get than fantasia, toy story and 101 dalmatians?

Plus winter discount room only is only $88 per night for a preferred room (I have a Disney visa and checked this resort this morning).

If you stay at Pop Century, AoA is just a quick walk over the bridge away and you can visit there :)

First off, thank you all for your awesome advice! I appreciate it so much. Your expertise is impressive and does not go unnoticed! :disrocks:

Its great to hear from someone who has stayed at Pop. I have heard it is loud. We will prob request a room that is not near the noisy pool.

I would love to pay about $80/night! And I could see us taking a walk over to AoA one afternoon. We are taking a long trip (for us) - 9 days. I can see what you're saying in that the rooms aren't really special. Plus we aren't the type to spend a ton of time in the room. The lack of night at night makes me nervous too - Thanks for that tip, disney world dreamer!

POR is a really good option for a mod. We stayed at a mod over our honeymoon (CSR), and I think it spoiled us.. $150 is really not bad. Did you use the %-off discount, dchronister?

Thank you so much for the well wishes, FantasiaMagic! You are so sweet. I think that Pop is really good option for us. Its a good price, and then we can waltz on over and check out AoA. (Its always there waiting for us on a later trip, right?!)

I hadn't even thought about All-Star Movies! Good one, bookgirl! However, I know that the %-off discount isn't available for this resort: http://www.wdwinfo.com/discounts/discounts-resorts.htm#visa. I am really interested in Stay, Play, Dine, however!!

If you stay at Pop Century, AoA is just a quick walk over the bridge away and you can visit there :)

I know! But I am afraid that I will get really jealous, dtr_angel! ;) But Pop is cute and fun and its definitely the best bang for my buck, which means I can go back to Disney again soon!! :)

Thanks again everybody for your great tips!

Hi. The next resort that screams Disney is All Star Movies. It is smaller than Pop, quieter, and the same size room. Once you go up to mod and above, nothing SCREAMS Disney. They have great themes, but each theme is specific to that resort.

THIS! I have stayed at Movies and at AOA Mermaid room and have visited POP to consider it for a future stay. I found the grounds at POP claustrophobic with all the landscaping encroaching on every walkway I went on, and while it had bright symbols, they lack the "Disneyfied" feeling. I would go for Movies, loved our stay there.

YES!!! If dh is looking for specifically Disney themed I think maybe POP will disappoint. Pop is bright and fun, but it is not as "Disney" as ASMo.

We haven't stayed at ASMo, but we did stay at ASMu twice and loved it. I found it to be a bit quieter than Pop(we have tried Pop too but didn't care for it, very large resort capacity made the wait for anything(foodcourt, busses) forever!)

That said, POR is our very favourite resort so far.....the boat to DTD is awesome and the resort itself is just beautiful. So if you could find a discount that would allow you to swing it, I would definitely go for it :thumbsup2

Good luck :goodvibes

Why change if he really wants to stay? Is the discount really that much in savings? We just booked AoA last night for $109 a night. I think I would just keep it for him. :)

If you books through Orbitz, you can apply one of their discount codes and get a 15% discount on the Little Mermaid room. I helped someone book one yesterday, so they were available then. I used the code Review15, but there's another one listed at the top of their website if that one doesn't work. I booked two other resorts for me -- saved more than I would have booking through Disney, and they're already set up in MDE to customize Magic Bands, etc.

Lots of people seem to love Pop, and it has the dramatic theming of the values. Personally, if I was going to stay at a value other than Aoa, based on theme alone I'd pick All Star Movies, I feel like it definitely "screams Disney". I haven't stayed there though *shrug*

My husband and I just got back from Pop and we loved it! I found the bed to be comfy, the room was clean, the bus service was nothing short of amazing (our bus always came first at the parks/DTD etc.). AoA is great and has a great food court which is why we often walked the measly 5 minute walk over the nice peaceful lake there and we often took the AoA bus back or walk there in the morning for treats and take the bus from there.

Pop was really nice and the theme is fun. There are big Disney characters all around so you don't forget you are at Disney. Trust me. :)

We stayed at POP in August and I have to tell you we didnt like it at all. The pool was always crowded, the rooms were tiny and it was difficult maneuvering the stroller in and out the door. The food court was the worst part for us- the carpet is just disgustingly dirty and the dining area was always dirty. It was loud and hectic and after trying it twice, we didn't return. The bus service was great though.

I know its popular, but it sure didnt fit us at all.
3 weeks ago we stayed in the Cars suites at Aoa. Loved everything about AOA!

I have no other experience at values, just wanted you to know our experience at POP.

Personally, having stayed at both (but never stayed at AofA), I prefer All Star Movies over Pop. Both do scream Disney though. But if I had my pick of values other than AofA, it would be All Star Movies.

You could also do Pop and request to be in 50s with Lady and the Tramp or 60s with Jungle Book (or even 70s with the Mickey Phone)

If we're going Value, I really like Pop. My DH and I stay in the 80s wing (He was an 80s child and I was born in 1986). The last time we were along the back, nice and quiet and could walk kitty corner right to the bus stop.

I've stayed in POFQ when it opened as Port Orleans and it's still one of the resorts I remember best as a kid. LOVED that place. If we hadn't been able to get the deal we did at AKL for our next trip, we'd be staying there.
