I have been checking United every day to see the cost of airfare. Last year, I booked and paid for our airfare several months in advance and the cost of the airfare never went up (until like 2 weeks before we left)

Flash forward to this trip in May. The airfare for 4 of us (non-stop) on Ted is $1150.00. We paid less than $1000.00 this year. Now, keep in mind, Southwest begins flying out of Denver to Orlando in Jan. so I have been hesitant to book. Also, since the costs of flights never went up at all this year, I felt pretty good.

I check to day, $250.00 MORE than yesterday! I am panicked! We budgeted for $1200.00 and this blows my budget out of the water!

Now, I only want to fly non-stop to Orlando, but will consider a lay over if absolutely necessary.

Should I just lay back and hope fares go down again? Does anyone have any history of airfare deals?

Help me ease my mind please, I just keep kicking myself saying I should have bought last week, or yesterday at least. Anything will make me feel better, thanks!!!

If SWA starts to fly out I would wait they will most likely have some start-up deals .Other airlines might also drop prices for a short period because of SWA as well.

And Yes flights are the most stressful part of a trip I only fly SWA and the waiting can be murder but I have always gotten great deals and have never been disapointed in them.

The problem with SWA from Denver is they don't have a direct flight to Orlando. Currently, they are only flying to Las Vegas, Phoenix and Chicago.

You have a better chance for May than I did for March. We are flying American, connecting in Dallas. I did get it for $244/person, but I purchased last July. For my dates (and I had no flexibiliy - going over spring break - out on Saturday, back on Sunday), I never saw the direct flights (at least at times I liked) for less than ~$450/person. For the connecting flights, they were ~$250 for a couple of months and than jumped to ~$330. I was upset I missed it - I was hoping for a lower direct flight. But then one weekend, the prices dropped, both for our flight and for family flying from Portland, OR, and I had enough points on my credit card to get four tickets. We jumped on it and I am glad I did, because that Monday the prices jumped back up and have only gone up. Not to mention the credit card company has changed the reward rules and it takes also twice as many points to get tickets. So I am happy - would have loved to have a direct flight, but my kids are teens now and good flyers, so it shouldn't be a problem. And we are meeting up with family in Dallas, so should have fun on the second flight.

I'd watch the flights like a hawk and jump on them immediately if they come back down to within your budget. I would definately jump on any <$250 direct flights and seriously consider any <$300 direct flights if they were at times I liked.

Thanks for the advice! I will watch very closely. I am hoping that Santa will bring us some airline tickets :flower: (my parents fly often and have all kinds of free tickets, rewards, etc.) I am not counting on it, and will keep an eye out.

I have an 8 & 4 year old so don't know how they would do with connecting flights. I myself don't like them, but if they are much cheaper I will have to do it.

I'll just hope for the best..thanks for the advice!
