so i am going to disney/ universal from 5/25-6/1. i am a dvc member. I am wondering should i pay for the room at an onsite hotel for a friday night or thursday night stay at 254 per night to take advantage of fotl and early entry or use points and stay at dvc and pay for the express pass. Its two adults and three kids ages 5,2 and 1. and use i am the hp fan and i will be going so that is not up for debate. I can however got to universal mid week. I hate standing in line so i fp it out at disney and my 2 year has autism so we dont know how any gac will help at universal.

thanks

I really would suggest staying onsite for one night.

Keep in mind, with a ONE night hotel stay onsite, you get TWO FULL DAYS of unlimited express!

If you were to purchase Universal Express tickets, they would only be good for one day. They would also only allow you to skip the line of each ride, once! With the hotel key, you can ride the same ride over and over again in the same day.

For Thursday and Friday, purchasing an express pass would cost $31.99 per person, per day. So your total for 5 people for two days of express would be
$319.90. As you can see, staying onsite is CHEAPER than purchasing the express pass at the park (which is normally always the case for groups of 4 or more). So you get to stay at an amazing onsite hotel (some say they are better than Disney Deluxe, and I have to agree), get to take advantage of the early entry to the parks on friday morning, get to use the water taxis to the parks, save your DVC points, and of course skip the lines!!

Just make sure to wake up really early on Friday, check out of the hotel (BUT KEEP YOUR ROOM KEYS!!!!), and pack your car before heading to the parks for the day. It is not fun to have to return to the hotel after your early access to HP to check out and pack the car, only to turn around and head back to the parks after. Get it done before your day even starts.

We were down from Nov 25 to Dec 3 this past year. We stayed at BWVs and took a taxi to IOA on tuesday (lowest crowd calander day for MK). We got there around 8:15 were at the gate around 8:40. It seemed really quiet. Not many folks in line and I saw no one using the early extrance gates. At 8:45 they started leaving us in. We were on FJ before 9. I too wondered about buying an express pass, but I was glad I did not. If you go at a low time in midweek, you should be fine. The taxi ride was about $30 in one direction.

do one night onsite on a weeknight.
weekend rates are higher.

you will recieve 2 days of perks for the one night stay.
you get early entry and unlimited usage of the express lines for rides and shows.
your perks end on the closing of the parks on your checkout day.

go to guest services for the Gap card to help you enjoy your time in the park.
you will not have waits then.

basically, show the card to the TM at the ride.
they will write down the time for you to return and you will not have a wait then.
guest services can personalize the gap to fit the needs of your family.

with the ages of your children, i believe it would be easier to get them up and ready for the park while staying onsite.

if you would have to get them up, fed and ready and then travel in traffic, deal with parking, from your DVC resort to universal, you would be tired once you arrived......
been there, done that.....

make it easy on yourself and start the day from the hotel at UO.
very little down time to deal with then.
