Help me decide for our dinner at MGM

1) 50' Prime time cafe

2) Hollywood & vine

3)outside the park but where near the park?

50' Prime time cafe is the best. Make sure you ask for cousin Dave. ;)

I didn't vote because I thing H&V and 50's are not so good. But if you are looking for a restaurant by MGM then I would hop the boat and go over to the boardwalk area.

Spoodles
Cape May Cafe
Beaches and Cream

Would be my choice.

Sorry, but H&V is the worst meal I have ever eaten at Disney. But it could have been a bad night!

OH lots of people like the restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin too. Not sure if you are on the Dining plan!

50's Prime Time- I've never seen a good review for Hollywood & Vine.

I've been to disney many times, but I don't know where is the boat to go to the Boardwalk???

And yes, we'll be on the dining plan!

Thanks! :)

If you want to do Fantasmic pkg then H&V otherwise 50's PT.

The boat ramp is to the far left as you walk out the main entrance to MGM. Here is the park map, you can see the little boat ramp in the water.

Once on this boat it will take you to Epcot. It takes about 15 minutes to get over to Epcot. But will first stop at SWAN/Dolphin, then on to Beach Club/Yacht Club, and then on to Boardwalk Inn/Villas, and then on to Epcot. So you can get off on any one of these stops and go into the restaurants. Since you are on the plan, you will want to skip the Swan/Dolphin since their restaurants are not on the plan. But the ones on the Boardwalk AREA are:

Beach Club hotel:
Cape May Cafe Buffet (this is a seafood buffet and it gets high marks on the boards)
Beaches and Cream (50's soda shop, mostly burgers and milkshakes)

Yacht Club hotel: Yachtmans Steakhouse (2 credits on the DDP) Nice steak place

Boardwalk Inn/Villas:
ESPN
Spoodles (also gets good reviews)
Big River Grille (we did not like this restaurant at all)

Or of course if you weren't planning on returning to MGM for Fantasmic you can hop the boat all the way to Epcot and eat in one of the countries and then watch illuminations! (that is if you have hopping priviledges on your tickets of course!)

Happy Planning :goodvibes

I liked H&V more than 50s Prime Time...I do tend to like buffets anyway (I'm a grazer :rotfl2: ), but I just wasn't that impressed with 50sPT...

I totally didn't think about Cape May Cafe (duh- we just went there, then took the boat to MGM about a week ago!). It was only about 15-20 minutes to get from the Beach Club to MGM. Very easy. We even left the Beach Club at 7:30pm and actually made it to Fantasmic with time to spare! :woohoo:

I'd pick Cape May over 50's Prime Time any day.

An important question is whether you want to stay or go back to MGM after your dinner.

I agree with others that said those other restaurants are better than H&V and 50's. But if you are going to go from MGM to the Beach Club and back again, you are going to use at least an hour or so just to travel there and back.

If that's ok, then I'd say try Cape May.

If you want to stay at MGM, then I'd go with H&V. If you get an enthusiastic server who is good at playing their part, 50's would be the choice. But that's pretty random.

Instead of those two, may I recommend the Sci-Fi cafe (keep it deliciously simple: burgers, onion rings, and shakes) or The Brown Derby (go with its strengths)?

When forced between the choices you ask, I went for Prime Time Cafe, but really - not so good.

I would rather chew a wad of tin foil then eat at the 50s Prime Time. I despise that place. The H&V is OK, but I say go to Spoodles on the Boardwalk. Or I prefer Sci-Fi, Mama Melrose's or Brown Derby (little more expensive) in the park.

If you have a Park hopper, you could hit Epcot as well.

I have always enjoyed the atmosphere at 50's Prime Time but have heard the servers no longer do their routine. That makes it just a restaurant with fair food and high prices.

Brown Derby may not a place for great fun but the food is far better than 50's Prime Time (or anyplace else I can think of at the Studios). BD's Cobb Salad is the best we have found in our travels across the country.
Second best was in Yountville CA but that's a bit far to go. ;)

Here's one! We like H&V! The buffet has a wide variety. Of course, I liked it better when it was a character meal.

If I had to choose it would be 50PT but we do not like any of the TS at MGM very much.
I would suggest taking the boat over to the Boardwalk area where you can find Cape May, Spoodles and up untill recently Palio (our new favorite restaurant which is now gone forever) :confused3
