Help me Decide: Walk vs ECV

In mid August I tore the ligaments in my foot. I had surgery and was unable to put weight on for 8 weeks. I then had to wear a cam boot for another 6 weeks. Finally, last week, I was able to get rid of the boot. My foot is still swollen and was unable to wear any of my own shoes. I still have some pain and stiffness when walking, and by the end of the day, the foot is pretty swollen.

I leave for Disney Dec 9th. I am torn between walking it for the week, or renting an ECV. I am staying at Wilderness Lodge Villas and am travelling alone. I usually rent a car, which gives me a lot of flexibility to bounce between parks. Any opinions would be welcome. I walked the malls today, and the muscles in my calf are really aching from not being used in so long.
I don't usually return to the resort during the day, so if I rent the ECV, then I have it for the entire day. If I rent one, I would use an offsite company. Before I got out of the boot, I wen to Disney for a week and rented the ECV and had one of my best trips ever. I knew on that trip that there was no way I could walk 10 hrs per day for a week.

It really does sound like an ECV would be a huge help to you this trip too. It's been estimated that most people walk at least 6 - 10 miles a day at Disney, and it sounds to me like it wouldn't be much fun for you to do that right now. Remember that if you over-do it on the first day, it might put you in a lot of pain for the rest of your trip, which would be utterly miserable. You said that using the ECV made your last trip fun; it sounds to me like using one this time will do just as much good!

Hope you have a wonderful trip! :thumbsup2

I know from experience that you will be so much happier if you do rent an ECV. Go ahead and get one. If you decide that you don't need it, you can always park it with the strollers and walk a bit then go back and get it, or someone with you can ride it for a while.

Basically a person has a certain amount of energy available to them daily. If they relax during the day the amount of energy available will increase; when they sleep at night they recharge their system,

However, when in pain energy is used up much faster than in normal conditions. If you become exhausted, with by what you have done or, more importantly, what you have done while in pain your system will not recharge to the original energy level overnight and you are starting the next day with a lower amount of energy available.

Once around the World Showcase Lagoon Promenade is more than 1¼ miles; most people tend to average 8 - 12 miles per day at WDW.

I couldn't have managed transportation or elevators with an ecv and think if I need one again I will just rent one in the parks. WL has small boats that don't accomadate ecv's. A large boat will, but it doesn't run as often.
