OK my husband booked us as GF GV room as a surprise to make up for some issues we had on my 40th birthday trip. He gave it to me as my anniversary present (17th anni for us). I am totally OK with this. I am not a huge fan of the whole victorian theme but I think the resort is very pretty and restaurants are very nice. BUT...............

I grew up at CR. We can change to CR MKV for about the same price and it is available. Do I ask to switch and hurt his feelings to go with an old favorite or stick with what we have and be happy???

I HATE decesions like this.

If you've never tried the GF then I'd say stick with what you've got... Garden View is very nice...

i'd approach it very gently with him and see what he has to say. :flower3:

I'll say just give at a try.
It's something new and he worked on it thinking of doing you a favor.

But....

When you feel way more comfertable with CR then you have to discuss that with him.
If that makes you feel so much better then he is probable happy also.

I know what you are saying about GF, it is my least favorite of the monorail resorts, but I think you should give it a try and let DH's surprise stand. I wouldn't book GF myself, but if it was a surprise gift I'd give it a try, you might not LOVE it, but I doubt you'll hate it....it isn't like you'll be switching from CR to a Holiday Inn! :teeth:

Stay with the GF and ask for a MK view upgrade when you check in. You get the best of both worlds.

I say stay at the GF - here's why..

1) He went to the trouble to plan a surprise. If my husband even did that, I would be amazed. I don't even get flowers for valentines Day without reminding him....

2) How often do you get to try out their amemnities? I hear their new pool is very nice and you have that spa within walking distance.

3) 1900 Park Faire breakfast. One of the better breakfast buffets. Yum. Citricos and Narcoosees, too. I also love V&A dinners. The chef's table is an experience never to forget!

4) Beautiful grounds. The ladybug release they do with the kids is great to watch.

5) Such a nice boat ride to the MK. I know the CR has one too, but this one is shared with the Poly and almost never crowded since everyone takes the monorail.

6) The house band and the Gardenview Tea Room. Call me old-fashioned, but I love that mini-orchestra.

Just my thoughts.

I am a very rare poster to these boards, but I thought I might share my experience with the Grand Floridian with you. I never thought I wanted to stay there. I wasn't wild about the theme, and I thought it would be too "fussy". Well, I got a really good rate there last summer with free dining. So my family of four gave it a shot. All four of us fell completely in love with this resort. At first look, it seems very formal, but nothing is further from the truth. I felt extremely comfortable in normal resort wear. I saw everything from tank tops to wedding gowns, and that is the charm of the resort. The staff there couldn't be more helpful. I asked if there was any chance for an upgrade from my Garden View room, and they gave us a Magic Kingdom View for no extra charge! It was fabulous. I sat on my balcony most nights and watched the light parade and the fireworks. This resort was immaculate. The dining options were varied, and the food very good. I will never again stay anywhere else on property (i will go less often if I can save money to stay at the GF). If you choose this resort, I hope you have a great time!

I'd keep it. The GF is WDW's flagship resort. It is a special treat to stay there and I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings either.

Ok number one convinced me to stay put. My husband never gives me surprises. No flowers ,candy, jewelery nothing of the such. He is not overly romantic. So him taking the bull by the horns and booking this trip for me speaks volumes after 17 years of marriage.

The lady bug thing sounds cool. When do they do this?

I don't think they do it anymore - the area is now used as the waiting area for 1900 Parke Fare...

BUT... if you get a chance... take an evening (or before dinner) and go have a drink up at Mizners or at Citricos and listen to the band upstairs...

The GF is really nice... some think it's stuff, but it really isn't. Relax by the pool if you can one day... and just relax and enjoy...

Any dinner plans?

Also, just a suggestion: If you have a car, use the valet parking. The parking lot is a LONG walk. If I did it again, I would definitely use valet. The busses stink. I thought that they would come more regularly being in a premium resort, but that's certainly not the case. Have fun!

We are having dinner at my favorite restaurant Narcoossee's a few other places such as LeCellier, Kona and Jiko. A few for our little one CM and Ohana. A pretty wide variety.

try something new!! and stay at GF, I've heard the restaurants are great, you are still near to the MK and it's an anniversary gift ;) , you can stay for your next trip at CR (I know your point I LOVE CR I really do :)) , let us know what you choose and how it went :)

I voted for you to go to the GF, but if the choice came up in conversation and he said that he really didn't want to go there and only picked it because he thought you would like it, then...

At the same time, a new place will mean new memories, whether you love the resort or not it will still be an anniversary vacation at WDW.

The beds at GF are amazing and they have the H2O line shampoo/conditioners/lotion!!

One other thing. Maybe he secretly wanted to try the GF?

BINGO YOU WIN THE PRIZE

He admitted he has always wanted to stay there. ;) Guess he didnt want to spill the beans he liked the girly place

I was all about the nostalgia of taking my son where my parents took me. Oh well we will save that for next time. Plus if I can convince him to buy BLT I can stay there sort of.

Just my opinion, but I say you have made the right decision.
This from another woman who has your husband's twin for a husband.
