Help me decide CCV or BRV?

Hello,

We are looking to buy into DVC for the first time on the resale market. We are in our 50s, children now grown, been to Disney 10+ times over the years. We LOVE Wilderness Lodge and have always wanted to buy there. We've stayed in Boulder Ridge over the years, but never in Copper Creek. My heart wants to buy in Boulder Ridge but I keep reading that Copper Creek is a good deal right now. What are everyone's thoughts? Given our age I'm not that concerned about 2042 resorts expiring. We are looking at buying about 100 points as a start and plan to travel September & sometimes early December.

I’m team ‘BRV’ all the way - I love the ability to enjoy the grandness of the main lobby and then retreat to BRV’s own little quiet lobby to relax - and nothing beats the stroll over the connecting bridge at night with the lights and the sounds of the (faux) crickets…

I own at CCV but what I've heard (I am a new owner) securing rooms in early Dec is a bit of a nightmare. I'm not sure if BRV faces the same level of difficulty but that could be reason alone to go BRV.

Same difficulty - especially studios…first weeks of December is prime DVC time - many of the DVC resorts are tough to get those first 2 weeks…

I'll never forget the first time we realized Disney pumped in the sound of crickets. We were just amazed at such a detail. We were sitting in the rockers for quite awhile and it finally hit us that these crickets seem to be repeating their pattern, lol.

Since posting this I've been listening to resale podcasts. Is there any way to know how many 100 point BRV contracts might exist? I've read they sold larger contracts "back in the day". Also given when we want to go Sep/Dec - which use year(months?) are better, or does it matter? Just know I am the planner in the family, we have our 2025 vacations booked already so I'm not concerned about getting to use points this year. Plus my husband only has so many weeks of vacation.....

No, you just have to watch resale listings for a contract the size you want. When BRV first went on sale (as Villas at Wilderness Lodge, VWL), I think the minimum buyin for new members was 160 points, so that might be the most commonly available contract size.

An August or September UY would be perfect (August in case you ever wanted to check in at the very end of the month and extend into September, over Labor Day Weekend, for example), but a June UY would work too. This thread might be helpful - UY is the most difficult to understand part of being a DVC owner: https://www.disboards.com/threads/understanding-use-year-updated-february-10-2021.1942668/

Personally we’re team CCV although to be fair I don’t really seeing us own at either. I like being in the main lobby and also since we’re on the younger side the extra years do matter and will obviously have more resale value once 2042 rolls around. If you’re just wanting to be done with it in 20 years and prefer the peace and quiet, guaranteeing studios in December then Boulder Ridge no question. If you care about resale value down the line then CCV.

Thank you, very helpful, I wasn't even thinking about the issue of Labor Day

If you plan to have that contract long term (or give it away), CCV is a better deal.

If you like BRV and the 2042 expiration isn’t a problem, BRV it’s an ok deal (CCV is still better), but staying where you like it’s also important so you can go with that.
I would love to understand how CCV is the better deal for someone who believes they will be too old to go to Disney by 2042 and doesn’t care about the expiration.

Before reading your entire post, I would say Copper Creek. Longer contract that you can always sell if you age out of Disney trip and I prefer the main building since I dislike the walkway over the marshy looking area to BRV.

However, after reading your post throughly it does seem like BRV is a good choice for you. You’ve stayed there and enjoy it. You don’t mind the expiration date. The only problem I see is that it might be much harder to find a 100 pt contract at BRV than Copper Creek. Most of the contracts there are larger size.

I don’t think you can really go wrong with either. We were just booked at Boulder Ridge for marathon weekend to check out the new rooms. They look adorable to me. However, as soon as a Copper Creek room opened we switched bc I just can’t beat being in the main building.
Good luck in your search. We love the Wilderness Lodge too🥰

Team BRV here. We are early 50’s and have staggered expiration dates for our contracts. The 2042 wasn’t a deal breaker for us due to our age. We love BRV, it’s such a different vibe compared to the main lobby at WL. It’s way more private and quiet. The details in the lobby are amazing, and you’re a short stroll to the main lobby if you need more grandeur. I love how close it is to the better (IMHO) pool, bus stop and Geyser Point. Also love having Sturdy Branches right there for sauna time!

If they want to keep going after ~70 (a lot of people do… especially if grandkids enter the picture) or their adult children would enjoy using it past the point they won’t want to go, it is the better “deal.” But “buy where you want to stay” is a good enough reason to look past that.

Forgo them both and go glamping! CCV owner here and a studio in early December is no joke!

BRV* ;)

I see 2 100 in Feb available at the moment, but of course there could be more somewhere. (i see 2 others between 75-125)

the value is there, if they wanted to sell in 2040? or we're hoping to leave something to kids, etc, etc.

We have a trip coming up and are doing a split stay with 3 nights at Wilderness Lodge. That will be our first experience staying in the Main building, not Copper Creek I know, but hopefully that will help me decide.
