Help me decide between Fort Wilderness cabin or 2 rooms at ASMU!

Kids are 15,11,6,7. I've stayed at the AS before but need opinions.30.00 more for cabin over 2 rooms at A S.,not that significant but I'd like to know about bus service, activities for kids etc.All opinions highly welcome! BTW, do you still get that Disney feel at FW?

I think you will have a great time no matter which you choose. Unless you plan/need to use the kitchen, I'd choose two rooms (ask for connecting) at one of the All Star Resorts, just because you'd get two bathrooms (and two TVs). You'll probably be closer to the pools and the foodcourt at the All Stars.

That said, the cabins will probably be quieter - nice way to wind down from the stimulation of the parks. You'll have the kitchen to prepare some meals, boat access to the MK and easy access to the nightly campfire activities.

Have a good trip - no matter where you choose to stay!

If the kids aren't bathroom hogs, I would suggest the cabin. Our kids loved the petting zoo, the horse barn, the playground, hayrides and most of all the campfire movies. You can go down to the dock and see the MK fireworks and the Water Pageant. Renting a golf cart is $$ but lots of fun. We even cooked out on the grill on our deck a few times. Wonderful memories!

The bus service at All-Stars is tops! At Ft. Wilderness unless you have a golf cart or bicycles, it is a two-bus ride every time.

If you really want to spend time in the parks, All-Stars is the better choice. If relaxing, quiet and the great outdoors is your thing, then Ft. Wilderness is the better choice.

I seem to want to hang around the campground more and relax when I stay at Ft. Wilderness. When I stay at All-Stars, I am more motivated to get to the bus stop and "get out there".

Another consideration for All-Stars, the food court! It is so much easier to grab a quick, small breakfast on the way to the bus at All-Stars. Ft. Wilderness only has a full buffet for breakfast. But then you would be in a cabin and can keep your own quick breakfast stuff.

One more point for All-Stars, when requesting connecting rooms, you can request that one of the rooms be handicapped equipped, then you get a King Bed for mom & dad, with a fridge, while the kiddos can share the connecting room with two doubles.

We stayed in the cabins last March. We had 2 rooms booked at ASMovies and then decided the cabin would be nicer. It was myself, dh, kids 7 and 4 and my parents. The cabin was roomy enough for 6 but the sleeping was a problem. My parents let my family take the bedroom but they were pretty uncomfortable on the Murphy bed. Dad is well over 6 feet and both my parents are big people; they just didn't fit comfortably. I think you should figure out who would sleep where as you have a large family. If sleeping works out OK then the cabins are really a treat.

My kids loved the atmosphere of Ft.Wilderness. It's a separate little vacation land unto itself. The cabins are like camping without having to "rough it." Having the kitchen was great and there is a nice deck where we had our cereal each morning. There are two nice pools and the mousekeepers kept the place spotless. It never feels crowded at Ft. WIlderness. I was afraid the rooms at All Stars would just feel claustrophobic.

If you decide on the cabin, you might request loop 2100. It is the only cabin loop that is close to a real-camping loop, so you can walk a few steps to the comfort station in case you need an extra toilet or shower. These facilities are immaculate and laundry and ice machines are also in each. We sent Grandpa packing for the comfort station more than once! Loop 2100 is also right on a major bus stop. Enjoy!

Ok, I know I go on and on but I just reread your post. Ft. Wilderness is SOOOO Disney. It is rustic and woodsy and it feels liek you are staying in Frontierland. Everything is lush and green and the place smells great. Everyone there is very friendly and the pace is slow -- so nice after the parks.

Buses run within the campground as some areas are off-limits to vehicles. You can take a bus to the main gate and then get buses to the parks. You can also take a great boat ride to the MK or MK resorts.

When I was a kid we camped at Ft.WIlderness almost every summer. It is a magical, unique place of which I have so many fond memories. I believe your family would love it! If you decide to stay there, don't forget to check for codes as I have heard the cabins can be well-discounted.

I have to agree that where ever you decide to stay, you will love it.

Last year we stayed at the cabins for the first time. The rooms were spotless & the accomodations were very comfortable. The kitchen was great to have. I did not cook but we had breakfast and snacks at night. It was nice to eat breakfast on the deck - the kids really enjoyed seeing the wildlife. My husband (who is 6'4") slept comfortably on the Murphy bed. The kids shared the bedroom. We did have our own car and so transportation was not an issue. Like mentioned earlier, the employees are very friendly. This is MY top choice.

The AS are great too! The two bathrooms are such a plus! We could definitely get out and about faster than with just one. Also, it was nice to have the food court nearby (especially for breakfast when we would need milk for our cereal). The theming is definitely Disney. The atmosphere is a little more hectic and there are a lot of children for your children to interact with. This is my children's pick.
