Help me decide about Velocicoaster and Stardust Racers

Ok....so a little backgound. I have mild to moderate motion sickness, but it's odd the rides I can do and cannot. I am headed to Orlando for a conference this summer, and I'm taking must my son with me (he will be 20). I don't want him to have to ride too many rides by himself (though he will and won't care). So here's some background on what I know I can handle. As a side note, I take Bonine every park day. I really want to try Velocicoaster and Stardust Racers, but I haven't done an upside down coaster in years. In fact, the last upside down coaster I did was the Hulk in 2000....and it wrecked me! I had no trouble with them before that, and I've been scared to do them since.

I can do Hagrids, Gringotts, and the Mummy just fine, I just need like an hour after before I can do another coaster type ride. Rip Ride Rocket made me a bit woozy, but I recovered fairly quickly. At Disney, I can do Everest, but again, a bit woozy after. I think the backwards part is what gets me, even though Hagrid's doesn't bother me at all (maybe because it's not in the dark??). I can do Slinky Dog, Space Mountain and Tron just fine. Motion simulators get me a bit. I can do Flights of Passage at Disney as long as I close my eyes on the parts they dive down. Forbidden Journey I can do, as long as I close my eyes on certain parts (actually, any of the screen parts). I do know super big drops (like big steel type coasters) are a bit harder on me than they used to be.

So convince me that I'll be okay on Stardust and Velocicoaster please...haha!

I can do Hagrid's, Gringott's, Mummy, Everest, Slinky Dog, Tron, Guardians, Flight of Passage, and Forbidden Journey.

I CANNOT do Space Mountain, Aerosmith Rock n Roller Coaster, Hulk, or Rip Ride Rocket. All of those are just too shaky and rock my head around so much that it's painful and unenjoyable.

I do Velocicoaster easy. It's my favorite roller coaster (along with Hagrid's and Guardians). Although out of those three I feel Velocicoaster is the only one I would consider a true thrill ride.

I just tried Stardust Racers and it's a no-can-do for me. It rattled my head so bad. Never again. My daughter felt the same... like her brain was going to come out of her head. My husband did it twice and liked it but not his favorite. And my other daughter loved it. But she loves all the ones I can't do.

I did enjoy Donkey Kong Mine Cart, Hiccup's Wing Gliders, and Curse of the Werewolf at Epic also. All very fun and well done IMO. Get to Mine Cart EARLY. (We had early access through Helios.)

I can't spin, so Curse of the Werewolf is a no for me. I am leaning towards trying Velocicoaster....I hear it's just so amazing!

On the other hand, considering the high-profile issues they have been having with it I have a feeling Stardust Racers is going to be the first ride at Epic that is permanently closed for a "reimagining" so if you want to ride it you probably have less time to do so.

It is! Just make sure the lap restraint is snug. The first time I rode it it wasn’t snug enough for me to feel comfortable and actually enjoy the ride. I legit thought I was going to fly out of the ride. And I was worried about my daughters the entire time. All I was thinking was if someone flies out of this ride please let it be me not them. And I was wondering if it would hurt when I landed. 🤣

Now when I ride it I make sure it is snug enough to feel safe. 🤪

I mean I’m sure it was safe but it just didn’t feel it. Going upside down without shoulder restraints was a new experience for me. 🙃

Have you considered using the anti nausea trans-derm scop patch that goes behind your ear? My friend uses those and it is a game changer for him. The difference between not being able to handle Spider-Man vs being able to ride anything in the park (ok, we do skip the teacups). He also skips the "large drop" rides by choice (Velocicoaster, Hulk, Stardust, Rip Ride Rocket, Dr Doom, Dudley flume). With bonine he's sitting down for an hour and/or feeling lousy after certain rides; with the patch he's able to do any ride back-to-back other than MiB (it's the spinning, but once is fine).

It does cause some blurry vision right after putting it on and can cause dry mouth - the first issue is solved by putting it on before a nap or bedtime. But then each patch lasts for 3 days, and you can still drink & swim and anything else while wearing it. And him not having to feel lousy half the day or make ride selections based on motion sickness is much more enjoyable.

Have you done POV videos of both coasters on Youtube? These can probably give you the most accurate assessment for yourself.

Based on your description of other rides/coasters, you're similar to where I am at with coasters, with maybe just a little bit less tolerance (I can do Hulk ok, but couldn't repeat it in the same day).

Both Velocicoaster and Stardust are at the max of my coaster ability. I've been on each 1x. I'd probably do Stardust again but not Velocicoaster. I loved the first part of Velocicoaster but never want to do the largest hill again, and the barrel rolls were....challenging. Stardust I hated the airtime/lifting out of the seat, but the rest was mostly ok.

How do you do with track when it twists? Both of these have several places where it does this, with stardust twisting as you are going down a hill. This is another aspect to consider.

OP, I understand your concerns with those two rides.
I am a chicken with all coasters, so they are not for me. I don't like Forbidden Journey with all the screens, quick movements, and feeling like I was going to go upside down. My daughter, who is not a chicken, rode Velocicoaster, and said never again for her. I know I wouldn't like any of these at all. I just don't feel safe going upside down.
I guess I wanted to give another opinion on these type of attractions. It's okay to be a chicken, LOL.

My husband & I decided to try Velocicoaster shortly after it opened. As soon we shot out of the gates as I knew I'd made a terrible mistake going on it...so did he - even though HE was the one that talked me into it in the first place! He loves Hulk - I think it's just OK, I'm short so the restraint bangs my head around - but VC was just WAY too intense for us - hated that top hat thing. By the time we pulled back in the station he was panic breathing & trying desperately to get out of the restraint & off the ride & I basically had to semi-carry him back up to ground level. Never again. Didn't try Stardust because it looked as bad or worse than VC.

I'm not willing to risk trashing my whole day for one ride (I'm lookin' at you Mission Space Orange :crazy2:.)

My thoughts exactly! I know there are a lot of roller coaster fans, and that's great, but not for me.
I didthe Orange side of Mission Space when it was first introduced. I was dizzy and nauseated for an hour after and had to sit down for that time. I decided no more for me. Also, I'm getting "older" and don't appreciate those fast moving, upside down, terrifying rides anymore, lol.

I have used the scop patches before, but not for rides (I get it for post-surgical nausea). I've wanted to try it, though. Maybe I will this trip. I have never had any vision issues with it...well, maybe. Like I said, I've only used it after surgery and I slept a lot anyway!

The patch makes such a difference for being able to do the parks without tiptoeing around nausea - just being able to ride whatever whenever. It's simple enough to put the first one on the night before or when we are getting settled at the hotel - takes a few hours to kick in fully, then the rest of the trip it just does its thing.

I also have to medicate for rides (dramamine fan over here). I can't comment on Stardust, but I do ok on Velocicoaster. It's a lot smoother than the hulk (although more terrifying).

I'd say if you are going to do it, plan on something more low key afterwards (don't go straight to forbidden journey for example!). You don't mention what time of year you're traveling, but I found I was much more capable of recovery when we went in February than when we recently went in September. I found that the humid muggy air meant I couldn't shake that slightly nauseous feeling as quickly. So that might be a factor for consideration as well.

Funny you say that....going in June...I know the heat will not help. I do a great job of pre-hydrating because I know it can affect that!

Curse of the Werewolf
Yeah its a tame coaster and I was ok with spinning - like that time travel coaster they had in Disney - but Curse was really bad. I wont do that one again.

I have not done stardust - it seems to always be down when I was at epic.

Hulk has become a tough one for me as I get older - but I still do it - Velocicoaster is not bad at all IMO.
Hagrid's actually affects me more. Dizzy afterwards.

Also no issues with Tron or Cosmic at all.

IMO try Velocicoaster first and if your good with that then try Stardust.

Speaking of Curse of the Werewolf, the spinning isn't bad normally but varies each ride. Normally not as spinny as MiB or even Spider-Man. However, beware of a car with one side out of commission; when they only load one side of the car it will spin vigorously.

Every trip, I bring a couple of patches, and never use them....I am sure it would help a lot with rides that tend to get me.
Coasters that go upside down dont' affect me much on the first ride. Often though, I'll opt to go again, like we rope-dropped Epic, straight to Stardust racers, and did 2 rides in a row....I felt a bit weird after the second ride, nothing for the first. I've had the same thing happen on Velocicoaster, but VC is the BEST coaster, and Stardust was just about as awesome.
Simulator rides like Simpsons, Forbidden Journey, Star Tours at HS, and even somewhat the new Frankenstein ride, really, really get to me. the only Disney ride I've never done is MIssion Space Orange, and I don't plan to. Although, maybe the patch would solve that problem....
Backwards gets me too....so Hagrids got me good one time. Guardians at Epcot, which is so, so beyond awesome.....also gets me sometimes, I have pretty much learned when to close my eyes.
Hope you can give VC and Stardust a try. They're so smooth, and exhilarating, great fun!!

Yeah, I’ve been on it 3 times. The first time we spun a lot and it was so fun. The next 2 times we barely spun at all, kind of boring.

I can do Spiderman, so I might try it!
