Help me convince DH to buy into DVC asap

I really want to do this. As you can see by my signature, we have been going to WDW for many years now and stay in deluxe resorts. My husband wants to buy DVC, I can tell he does, but he is the cautious type, and needs to get used to the idea first. Can you list the pro's of joining DVC. I guess it would be fair to list the cons if you know of any. I need to be more informed.

We bought into DVC in 2001. It was worth it. Our reason is we only vacation every 2-3 years. When we do we like to vacation in a nice place. last trip we stayed in a 2BR villa at VWL. It was so nice. The kids had their own BR we Had a king with jacuzzi. Full kitchen, living area,etc. Having a washer and dryer was probably the best convenience. Without DVC we would never spend the money on a room like this. Having breakfast in the room saved so much time. And it was nice to have a place to relax without sitting on the beds to watch TV. Only downside we had to walk to WL for restaurants, that wasn't a big deal for us. We have used our points to stay at the Plaza in NYC. We are using them in April to stay at AKL for two days before our cruise. Your options are endless.

I had to convince DH too. Now he loves it as much as I do. The selling point for him is the 1 BR. We have 2 DSs, lots of laundry. We can pack light and throw in a load of laundry before leaving for the parks, dry it when we get back. His favorite part is the privacy we now have on vacation. The boys sleep on the sleeper sofa and we have a bedroom to ourselves.

I had to convince dh too. My tactic was to stay at SSR for a week in a one bedroom....it worked! He fell in love and did an add-on last year

Believe it or not DH had to convince me! I am the Disney nut but I really enjoyed looking for codes & grabbing the best deal. The problem is...other than the free dining promo, I haven't been able to find any great deals anymore. & to really get our money's worth on the free dining we stayed at POP. Not that POP is bad, but I found us staying there again at the holidays because everything was soooooo expensive. It killed me to pay rack rate to stay at a value. And even though POP is fun, I don't want to end up staying there every trip we take because moderates are getting out of our price range. Anyway, right before our Christmas trip, one of DH's co-workers was telling him about the promotion at SSR & I shocked my DH by saying, "Let's do it!". We also had just sold some property & didn't have to finance so it just seemed like it was meant to be. We have stayed at BWV by renting points before & we toured SSR during the holidays, they were sooooo nice & friendly there. Even though we were already in, they offered us cookies & drinks & then we took a tour. We were really impressed & I can't wait for our first trip home in June! Don't know if that helps but that was my reasoning & I don't regret it for a second.

By looking how many times that you have visited WDW, and if you feel that you will continue that trend. I would say that it would a good decision to buy into DVC. I bought into DVC in Dec of 2000 with resale, at the BWV. As soon as I got my Number I made my first reservation for spring break for April of 2001, and got in. I would definitely look into resale. Right know if I add up what I paid for my resale in 2000 and all my maintenance fee's over the years and what the resale on BWV is right now. I come out ahead money wise and got to take 4 trips to WDW and stayed all 4 times at BWV. The only mistake I made about buying into DVC back in 2000 was, I should of bought more points. Stupid me. I am heading back home to BWV April 5-16 2006 and am counting the days.

That is the route to go, sway him with a promise of romantic evenings alone in your own bed. If your DH is anything like me that out to sway him. Really, having space to ourselves at night when our son goes to bed was a big part of it for us. We spend every waking minute with him but when he sleeps we need a little us time. DVC provides that and more. Just realize it isn't cheap. Factor in ALL EXPENSES: buy in, annual dues (that will go up), airfare ( which are getting much higher with the downsizing of available seats and high fuel costs), spending money, food, and park tickets. So many people think they can afford timeshares until they start taking those trips. DVC isn't like buying into one at a beach. Most things at WDW are not cheap. It is a luxury to be sure. Even with the prepaid room we still spend TONS of money per trip. Good luck, but I'd go the romantic time route to sway him.

I am sure that my husband is even considering DVC because he knows about the one bedroom units and the thought of romance on vacation is a big incentive for him. I just need him to buy into DVC soon and shortly. But with the right information and approach, , I hope to bring his time line up to mine.

I didn't know anything about incentives from Disney for buying into DVC. How can I find out about future incentives?

Also, I too enjoyed finding the codes and discounts that were offered in the past, but they seem to be a thing of the past now. So buying DVC is a way of insuring that we will return to WDW and continue to stay on the level that we currently do.

I have to find out about the total out of pocket cost for us to buy 150 points (he can't start off too big, it will overwhelm him, so this will have to do for now), at SSR. And monthly maintanence fees.

There are a number of discounts and perks. Keep in mind though that they are not guaranteed and can be changed at any time.

Currently....

Best discount going is on an annual pass. The DVC discount is even deeper than the Florida residents discount.

There are discounts for a number of restaurants, some merchandise stores, disney tours, discount admissions to the water parks, pleasure island, Disney Quest. Discounts on boat rentals, NASCAR experience, and so on.

I purchased in 2002. The only con was I didn't purchase when I initially looked into DVC in the 90's.

I sincerely believe buying into DVC was one of the best things I ever did for myself, my wife and my familly.

Tell DH he'll never regret it.
