Help me choose: Poly, GF, or other?

I've booked the Polynesian (garden view), but am now reconsidering going with the Grand Floridian. Two problems with the Poly: 1) no whirlpool and 2) I don't like pics of the rooms I've seen. Basically, I'm not sure I could handle 7 nights in a bamboo and palm tree setting; I see enough of that everyday in AZ.

The problem with the GF is that it may be too "stuffy" for us. I stayed there many years ago and remember feeling out of place. Of course, that could be because we arrived in the evening on New Years Eve to find many guests sporting formal wear and here we were -- in jeans and sweatshirts after a long flight, looking beat. OTOH, I absolutely love the pics of the rooms I've seen.

High on my priority list for a hotel is convenience of transportation (Poly wins there), followed by an appealing room. A whirlpool would be very nice as well. I'm not at ALL interested in the Contemporary. I have a feeling we'll spend 2 days each at MK and Epcot and 1 day each (or less) at the other two parks. I doubt we'll hit the waterparks, and we'll visit PI and DTD in the evening. Oh, and it's just dh and I (we've decided the kids are staying home).

What should I do?

My DH and I felt the same as you - we weren't happy with the photos we've seen of the rooms at the Polynesian, so we tried the GF and loved it! We went in October last year with our DD 3 1/2. It wasn't stuffy at all and all 3 of us had a great time! The conveience of being at a monorail hotel is wonderful and everyone we met on staff was more than welcoming to us. We saw some people dressed more formally, but they were either attending a wedding or dining at V&A's. Most people were in shorts since it was 85+ degrees every day. The room decor is lovely, too. I also know of quite a few friends that love the Polynesian, so it's a very personal decision. Either way, you're sure to have a great time!

FamilyoffiveAZ, it sounds like you've pretty much made up your mind. Go with my husband's favorite resort, the GF. The rooms are very beautiful, as is the rest of the resort. As Phyllis1966 states, you won't feel out of place at all.
