It's the kind of thing you can't really go around bragging about IRL, but I knew you'd all understand......

I just paid off my mortgage!

We bought our first house almost 20 years ago, fixed it up and sold it, and have been in this one 13 years. We bought it right before our oldest started Kindergarten and had the goal of paying it off before he started college. He starts next year. We did it!

Congrats! It's a huge relief. We paid off ours almost 5 years ago. I agree about real life, though. The few people I've told have acted differently toward me, but I'm only in my 30s, so maybe that's why. We're thinkuing about moving though, and would need a mortgage again if we did. Anyway, best of luck with your son and paying for college!

Congratulations! That is our goal now that we are otherwise debt free- it seems so far away. Thank you for sharing so I know that it "does happen"! LOL

We've only been in our house for 3 years. We pay extra every month so I know we're getting somewhere albeit slowly

Congrats! It is so nice not having a house payment. We were payment free for 8 years and bought a new house so hopefully it will be paid off this year.

Thanks! I don't think we'll be feeling very much freedom with college starting next year for one child and another coming up behind him, but I'm so happy to have that cash freed up to funnel right into college.

That's our plan too. Only 12 more payments to go! After that we'll have 2 years to do the improvements/fun stuff/repairs we want to do before our oldest DD will start college, followed in 3 years by our second DD, and then 2 years later by our third DD, and finally 4 years later by our DS. Whew! Fortunately we only have a few years where they'll overlap a bit.

We, like other PP's, have moved into our home recently (September 2010) and have been paying extra each month (well, just started this year).

Glad to hear there is light at the end of the tunnel!
