Our DD plays softball for the local HS- last year we hosted a little softball party between the last game and start of regionals because the "senior day" had been a rain out. The other day I was bombarded by the team running up asking for us to throw another party this year- and since we are a sucker for the kids- I of course said yes.

Normally- when we do these things I just write out what I need and go to it- but since my DH works in the auto industry and has just been notified that they will be seeing 32 hr work weeks- and maybe even a shut down soon I am having a little panic!

It's a survivor themed party- and we have held one before so thats why I picked that since we have alot of the stuff we need already in the garage. I went around with our list and found sources for alot of the other things so I have the misc supplies for the party games, etc. down to about $100- which is really good for how elaborate the stuff is.

The food I need help on- its supposed to be a taco night-

Give me your best taco night themed ideas- and ways to save a buck!

Thanks so much!

I would make it pot-luck, you provide the basics and ask the kids/parents to bring something from a list you make. Most people end up bringing something anyway, this way you get what you need and can reduce your out of pocket costs.

We do a taco dip that isn't expensive at all and a big hit at parties.....

One layer cream cheese, one layor refriend beans (if you like them), one layer seasoned chicken or beef, 1 layer salsa, and then one "heapy" layer of shredded meximelt.

Cook on 350 for 20 minutes or until cheese bubbles. Serve with taco chips/scoops. When we do it with beef/chicken (can be without) - it is our meal its "that" filling.

Good Luck!

I second the idea of having team members bring food. Send a sign up sheet to a game or through e-mail. If someone feels that they really don't want to bring something, they won't sign up...but most will. There is no reason one person should bear the responsibility and cost of providing a team party.
You are generous to host it!
