My mom gave me her Maytag stove. So I try to turn on the oven and the lock light turns on. I have tried pressing buttons, nothing. I have read that it might be in sleep mode, and that it resets on its own, but its been a week already. Any suggestions?
Im just scared of what Maytag or Sears would charge to come repair it. TIA:thumbsup2

Do you have the model number of the stove?

some websites recommend doing MERxxxx

where XXXX is the 4-digit code number. I.e. MER5570

Hope this helps!

Could it be thinking it's going to start a cleaning cycle? Can you fool it into thinking it already has been through a cleaning cycle?

Does Maytag have a consumer hotline? Sometimes it's just a matter of knowing the simple magic code.

Also - did you try unplugging it? or turning off the power from the circuit breaker box? That might be enough to disengage it.

and try this -

Check to see if the stove is locked. The Control Lockout prevents the stove from being used which is useful if leaving older children home alone or when you go on vacation. If the word "Loc" appears in the display, press and hold Start for five seconds. The stove will make a sound and then “Loc” will disappear from the display. To lock the unit, repeat the process and "Loc" will appear. Make sure the stove is off before locking.

Good luck.

If the above doesn't work, have you unplugged it? Leave it unplugged for an hour then plug it back in. Many electronics will reset if unplugged.

Good luck.

Usually an electric stove or oven will have its own circuit breaker; rather than trying to unplug the oven, go to the circuit breaker panel and turn off the breaker for the appliance and leave it off for about an hour. This should reset everything in the stove.

Our water dispenser got locked on our refrigerator a while back and we found out all you have to do is hold the button in for a few seconds for it to unlock.

How annoying!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will try unplugging it first, since its the simplest to do. Just have to wait for DH to get home, because my arms aren't long enough!:lmao:
I sound like the dinosaur from Meet the Robinsons LOL!!:rotfl2:

"I have a big head.... and little arms....."

Call Maytag. I have a Jennair double wall oven and you have to press "back" and "enter" simultaneously to lock and unlock the oven on the control panel. Of course that makes absolutely no sense but that is how it is done.

Well we unplugged it for 2 hours (gave it an extra hour), plugged it back in and....nothing, still locked.
Finally located the serial and model number, so I will be calling Maytag CS tomorrow.
DH is so worried about not being able to bake his sweet potato pies for Thanksgiving, he is driving me crazy!
Thanks everyone for the help!:thumbsup2
