The OP never did say which resort she was staying in. She mentioned "Mousekeeping" which we could take to mean that she was headed to a WDW resort.

If you look at the OP's posts in the first and second pages of this thread, you might find them pretty unsettling. (Frankly, they freaked me out. )

First post was 10-something PM on a Saturday night; last post was 5-something AM on Sunday. That indicates she very likely didn't have a doctor or nurse check the child's hair before heading to WDW. Her questions sounded as if this was the only place she was getting her info from.

Ironically, I've seen a few posters here FLIP OUT over someone asking the DIS CB for medical advice--as opposed to running to their doctor--about possible broken bones. Yet, these same posters apparently think it's peachy keen that the OP took her DD (via who-knows-what mode of transportation) to stay in a WDW resort--without ever consulting any sort of medical professional.

Do these people think that broken bones are contagious, but lice are not?

Ugh! I've been scratchin' since I first saw this thread. I don't want to think about it anymore.

I hope this family at least drove their own car to WDW.

Blech-O-Matic if they were in a plane or train.

I hope she was able to get it under control and did tell mousekeeping but somehow I doubt we are going to get any kind of "trip report". And for you all heading there I would be concerned too, but you as you saw the kids get in the schools, people have gotten it from movie theater seats, you just never know, trying on hats, etc., it is one of those things you want to just keep your fingers crossed about. The thing is too many people sitll find it embarrassing so they say nothing.

I find this thread silly. Lice can be anywhere--on a plane seat, the couch in the doctor's office, a restaurant booth, any hotel room in the world, etc...
I would hope that every hotel/resort puts clean sheets on a bed when guests leave, not just ones with a case of lice.
People go out in the world everyday with them. They are not highly contagious and no-one should be expected to stay at home because of them.
I managed to go to work for 2 weeks with them and none of my 5 roommates got them at work! We didn't share brushes and they knew I had them.

I would bet, someone at DW every month has them! People don't tell that they have them because, as this thread has proved, the facts are cloudy! They like clean hair, can't even live in oily hair because it kills them. Certain hair types can't even get them.

Some of you are scared because you know about them on the OP. She just wanted help and now she may be scared to post again!!

While they are a pain, they aren't deadly!! There are worse things you can get than lice!!

Sorry but that is just gross. You went to work for 2 weeks with them?!!! We would not be co-workers anymore. That is just plain inconsiderate. As for not being dangerous- read back a few pages and you will see that you are wrong. I also think it is rude for you to subject others to them when it is not neccesary. I bet everyone on here wants their kids to have to use all the chemicals to get rid of them, the metal combs that hurt like heck to comb them out and then wash every single item in their house a gazillion times to get rid of them. It is a little more involved than just changing the sheets. Yeah- no big deal. Oh- and I don't need to watch a children's cartoon to get my info. I know this comes off as rude but I cannot believe you think it is acceptable to spread lice.

I have seen the epsiode on Arthur and it is great!

But you got to be kidding me, they are highly contagious and I agree with the previous poster that it is just rude to subject everyone else to this if you know you have it. If you spread it because you were in the beg stages or as one girl in DS9's class never had any symptoms and no one knew until the nurse did her check of all the students. That's one thing but to knowingly go out is just inconsiderate, do you do that when you have the flu, knowingly subject everyone else.

I am sure this happens in WDW more than any of us like to think about and yes we could easily get it there as at home. It can happen because they do not clean the rooms as thoroughly as someone does who's house has lice in it. Unless mousekeeping knows then theya re not going to clean that room like it should be.

You went to work with them?? That is just disgusting and inconsiderate to your co-workers! If someone at work had them and knew it I would inform management and they would be promptly sent home!!!

I am not an alarmist and I dont think someone could get HIV or something like that from lice but I dont underestimate any bug that deals with bodily fluids, whether it is ticks (lyme disease) or mosquitoes or lice. The risk of something is there. Now if my family gets it we will deal with in the best possible way by informing people that have come in contact with us and treating the family, the home and the car etc. That is the responsible thing to do! I mean there were preventative measures that we were asked to comply with when this affected my son's class, ie putting their coat in the dryer when they came home, having the girls were their hair up etc. It is called common sense and courtesy.

AS for the OP, many people offered advice but they were also concerned (and IMO should be) about her exposing others but not taking care of this properly!

I totally disagree with both these statements! She had no intention of following any of the help she asked for and got here. She never said is is OK to go on our trip or should we postpone until we get it under control. She got intolerance for he blatant disregard of the needs of the "masses" for her own wants. No one blamed her for getting lice, in fact people where reassuring that it wasn't her fault, we BLAMED her and rightly so for going on an airplane and to Disney spreading these pests. She NEEDS to see this thread and learn what others feel about her shenanigans and the danger she exposed everyone to. Sorry this PC crap only goes so far, some things are cut and dry and dang their feelings.

I was treating them every night and yes, I went to work. Everyone knew I had them and we didn't share brushes, or chairs, and none of my co workers got them. The school nurse checked me and okayed me to be there.
It took 2 weeks of daily treatment for them to be gone, including combing, mayo, olive oil, ironing, everything I heard of I tried, except cutting all my hair off. Taking off work until they are fully gone isn't needed, just like it is okay to send kids to school with them after treatment.

The flu can be caught through the same air, lice have to have contact. It's easier to catch a cold than lice.

Ok so you were careful and you specifically stated that you didnt share chairs but the OP would be sharing chairs with loads of people in shows like Philarmagic etc.

I have boys so I would shave their heads but I still think I would be a nervous wreck taking them to a place like WDW where I could expsoe so many people to it.

My daughter got sent home from school the day after we returned from Disney. Either she got them there or we took them there. Who knows. I do know that she was allowed back in school the next day after we began treating her for them. So if the mom was properly treating why should she not go on vacation?
