I'm packing here, and it just occured to me-we're in a studio at VWL and they don't replace towels until the 4th day. What if we go to the pool? Are there towels at the pool to use? Or what if we have to bring room towels-can we call housekeeping to request more towels at any time? Or should we be packing beach towels? There's just DH and myself.

There are towels at the pool. They are to be used at the pool only.

You can get an additional set of towels for 4 people for $6. Sometimes they bend the rules and provide an additional towel or two when necessary. You could also throw your towels into the washers while you are at the pool to freshen them up for your room.

Simba's MOM, if you wear a towel from the pool back to your room, I don't think that the DVC Police will show up...........at least for an hour or two;) ;) ;) ;) ;) .

Have a great trip:D :D :D :D

We usually take one back to the room so my son doesn't soak his wheelchair seat but then take it back the next day. If it doesn't work out that we can get it back to the pool we leave it in the room figuring it will make it way back via housekeeping. We did see a women taking at least 10 draped over arm back to her room.

(How do I post a sigh?)

Doesn't it seem crazy that some folks can do things like that and the rest of us are threatened with having to pay if we need an extra towel or two? That's one of the little annoyances I have with DVC. If people are blatantly breaking the rules then confront those people. Don't punish everyone with the little additional charges for soap, towels, etc., etc. Someone once said that management told them upkeep on the pool towels was more than on the room towels. Instead of compelling people to "borrow" from the pools, just let people have reasonable amounts of additional towels from housekeeping. You shouldn't have to think for a moment about taking a pool towel to keep a wheelchair dry. Reasonable requests should be honored. (I think most housekeepers do bend the towel rules. It's just annoying that there is a "rule".)

I guess my button was pushed.....rant over. :)

When we purchased last August, I specifically asked, "What if we need extra towels". There were two guides present and both answered just grab what you need at the pool.

At the time, it made perfect sense to us, but seems to be a real hot spot on this forum. Why is it a big deal if people take their pool towels back to the room...

They have to be washed either way. I can understand the problem with grabbing 10 clean ones, but I don't see where it is more expensive to use towels in my room that I also use at the pool?

Could the guides response have anything to do with the fact that our purchase was at WLV, where the pool is shared with WL resort guests? OKW has to pay to clean all towels, but WL and WLV must share the expenses somehow... (same at BWV and BCV as well...)

What about pool hopping? Does DVC have to pay some yearly amount for DVC member use of towels at other resort pools?

Just seems to bring up a bunch of questions,

They instituted the "pay for extra towels" policy to allegedly save dues money. Of course, when someone is purchasing it would be ridiculous to tell them they can't have a towel or two. It quickly became a habit for people to take the towels they needed from the pools. Word from management is that these towels cost more for upkeep. (Why? I have no idea.)

The whole thing just seems silly to me. I don't see where we are getting any savings if folks are taking the same amount (or more) of towels from the pools. I wish they'd just drop this policy. It doesn't make sense.

I have to agree, PamOKW!! On our last visit to OKW, we seemed to never have pool towels when we went down to the hot tub in the late evenings. I am sure this practice of taking towels is why!!! I see no problem with throwing your used towels in the washer and dryer if you need clean ones each day. It is SOOO easy!!!

I have the "No towel at the pool" issue at all the resorts - DVC and non-DVC. I am not so sure that this is a DVC only issue. Any more I take a few beach towels with us - just in case.

I have not purchased yet -- if anyone has seen my other posts on other threads they know I'm trying real hard to get in -- but I did stay as someone's guest at OKW a few years ago and I thought I was hearing things when I called to get more towels and they told me since we are staying as part of DVC you do not get maid service --- what is the point of the maintenance fee's?? Shouldn't they give you maid service as part of that?? I think they can just come and take the dirty towels and leave new one's at least -- they don't have to make the bed(s) or vaccuum or anything else but clean towels are needed!! I was truly shocked by this!!

Daily housekeeping is available (for an extra fee) for those who want the extra service. A survey of the membership found that most would rather pay less in dues than have the daily housekeeping- thus the "users fee" concept.

The maintenance fees cover all upkeep at the resort, property taxes, staff costs, a reserve fund for major repairs (roofs, appliances) and administrative costs for DVC. Housekeeping is presnetly a small portion of our dues. The availability of the extra service provides the option for those who need it.

Enjoy!
