We have decided to go down for a brief trip in about 2 weeks. Our home resort is AKV and the studios are full. We can stay at either OKW or SSR. Which is better? It will just be me and DBF, no children.

We plan on being at the parks alot so we need something very convenient to the bus stop and hoping near the pop refill station. I'm booking the room ASAP and the plane tickets tonight so please HELP US!!

i would stay at SSR and in the GRANDSTAND section if you can get it. I believe the grandstand is the first pick-up for the bus.:goodvibes

How far is it from the main lobby area? We visit the drink station A LOT and my poor feet get tired quickly. I really don't want to have a long walk everytime I need a pop.

Also, why do you prefer SSR over OKW? We've never stayed at either, only AKV, as this is only our 2nd DVC trip.

Truthfully neither is that convenient to a refill station...we were in a bld closest to the main bldg at SSR...close to bus stop, but a good walk to go get a refill...iF your in the parks that much u won't be home to get this drinks. HH at OKW is great, but most likely not available at this late date.

The Springs is closest to the food court, but the last bus stop. I like SSR studios better that OKW, especially for DH & me because there is a sofa to sit on. OKW has 2 queen beds.

HH is booked up.

I'd skip the refillable mug. It's really not convenient at OKW or SSR.

If you book SSR, Congress Park, you will be a bit closer to DTD and some of the evening activities there (but there aren't as many any more).

Even though I could skip the mug, I guarantee that my DBF won't. For him pop=life. :rotfl:

We stayed in the Grandstand - there is a refill station at the quiet pool which was exactly a 2 min. walk from our room - the main lobby/eatery is only a 4 min walk from there - looks far on a map, but you don't follow the road, there is a path. Also, the bus stop was very close and first drop off when you get back from parks. We'll be there in exactly 23 days and I am requesting the same section! We love OKW more, but only if we are in a 1 bedroom - enjoy the studios at SSR better with the couch to sit on and relax when it's just DH and I! Enjoy!

Doesn't the new QS at the paddock pool have a refill station? It seems like Grandstand, Paddock or the Springs would all be ok for access to the soda. Carousel and Congress Park would not be. But all are just a short bus ride from the food service.

Still - I'd think about buying some 2 liter bottles or cans instead, especially if you're planning on being at the parks a lot.

And I'd also select SSR based on your criteria. The chances of being close to a refill station are better at SSR than OKW.

If bedding is a consideration, OKW studios have 2 queen beds. All others, including SSR, have the queen beds and full sized sleeper sofa. Most couples would prefer the Queen and Sleeper sofa at SSR.

SSR is very nice - I'd stay there again. Walking about the resort is quite easy too with all the paths both within and over to DTD.

We've stayed at OKW also, (Turtle Pond Rd area). The TP area was not my idea of a FL getaway at all both in structure style and resort personality. It also made me feel as though we were isolated in the back of the resort and couldn't get to the main store/pool area without using the bus system. My GF walked up & back with her young kids on the main road (no sidewalk) with buses passing by close to them. Luckily we had a split stay OKW being the first leg, BWV being the second which saved the vacation.

Since we own at SSR I would have to say SSR. We really liked the Grandstand section there. Close to the first bus stop and only about a 5 min. walk to the restaurants etc. We don't use the refill mugs but get a small grocery delivery from Garden Grocer that includes water, soda, milk & beer along with some breakfast items. Cheaper & eliminates the walking for refills. Love having everything right there in the frig. We tried OKW once and did not like it....talk about BIG and SPREAD OUT...and the buses were like snails. It was also before the refurb and we had a unit that was overdue for some big time maintenance so that didn't help our opinion either.

We stayed at OKW once and did not like it. We felt the busses took too long. Coming back from the parks, we were the last stop, but would get off at the first stop and walk to our room before the bus made it to our stop.

SSR has 2 places to get drinks that is convenient to your room. Stay at the Springs and you can walk across to High Rock Springs pool. Stay at Grandstand and you can get soda at the pool there. We prefer Grandstand.

Why didn't she walk on the sidewalks? They are all over the place. Sometimes you have to cross the street to stay on a sidewalk, but they are available for every street. And there are crosswalks to cross the street before the sidewalk ends.

She told me there were no sidewalks to walk on. This was back in 2005, so not sure if they added them since?

We stayed at OKW in 1998 and there were sidewalks all over the place back then. She just didn't cross the street using the crosswalks and stayed on the wrong side of the street.
