OK... Been awhile since I've posted, but hello to all. Need some help. DW and I have been trying to go to Hawaii for XMAS this year, and been striking out with DVC. So we opened our choices to include some other 'always thought would be nice' places and DVC called to say our search for Ressies at La Cabana Beach and Raquet club has hit. Now we have to decide whether or not to give up on HI (searches haven't hit in 2 weeks or so) and go to Aruba. We've never been to Aruba, but love the beach.

Has anyone stayed at this resort? Seen this resort? Have a comment about this resort? Any opinions about whether we should wait on the HI search to hit. etc..... HELP!!! As always your input is appreciated!

Hi.

As luck would have it, I know a lot about LaCabana. We've stayed there three times. The last time was last month. My parents own a timeshare there.

I would be happy to talk to you about this resort and Aruba.

I sent you an e-mail so you can reply there or here where ever comfortable, but basically the jist was:

Would you recomend this resort (La Cabana) as a valid way to spend 160 DVC points? That's really the big question. We could holdout for other accomidations. Is the resort well maintained, are the accomidations nice etc. We are being offered a 1 BR for that rate.

Any other comments about the resort as compared to other DVC options or overall caliber of the property would be really helpful.

TIA

Doug

I own at the resort and would not put an exchange there as an equivilent one. Under the old exchange rules it was a viable deal at 55-80 points for a studio. The studios there are the same size and have the same kitchen as a 1 BR. You'll find the rooms are pretty small but it has a lot of activities. I think you'd enjoy the stay just that it's not worth the points it would cost to stay there. Regardless check air fare before you say yes.

Just list the places you don't own at or haven't been to. That way people can just PM you directly if they don't see the resort in question on the list :-)

Save us all the envy.

LOL, just don't ask me much about Europe, the Far East or Down under. Besides who can be suffering too much if they're at a DVC resort.

My husband and I had the best vacation we ever went on, in Aruba. We looked at La Cabana as one of our options for the price, and our travel agent dissuaded us and told us we would be much happier on the main beach. I can't remember the name of the beach, but it is where the big Hotels are, like the Hyatt, Holiday Inn, etc. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and absolutely loved it. The beach was great, their pool was great, but the best part was being able to just walk down the beach to many different casino's, which by the way, were all very nice to us.

When we saw where La Cabana is, we were quite glad that we hadn't stayed there. With that said, I know nothing of the resort itself, I am just relaying my experience with the location. But it is a very popular resort, so it is probably a wonderful place.

Hopefully one day, we will be able to go back there and stay at the Hyatt :)

Thanks to all who replied, as always your advice is apreciated. Special thanks to Paul who let me call him for info! :D We have decided to pass on the offer at 160 points for 1BR. Airfare was looking at around 1000 per person (for 4) unless a deal came up (not likely for xmas week). Thanks again. I hate having to make split second decisions without enough info, and you guys helped fill the gaps for us.

Doug,

Did you happen to see this on the rent/trade board?

Hawaii...Trade for Points
We are purchasing a vacation condo in Hawaii (Oahu) that should be completed by November 2003. We are currently DVC members and would be willing to trade a stay in our condo for your DVC points. This will not be a standard condo and will be above Disney standards with stainless appliances and granite countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms. It will be 2 BR, 2 Bath and will be luxurious in every aspect since it will be our own. This is a brand new luxury oceanfront low-rise resort located on a 6000 acre top-rated golf course. If you would like to see more of the resort and the area you can log on to www.kailanihawaii.com which will give you a nice overview. The trade would require 30 DVC points per day in Hawaii. Plus, I will be personally involved in making sure that your Hawaiian vacation is truly a first-class and memorable experience. Please email me @ ewracing99@yahoo.com if interested. Also, if you would like, I can provide references from folks who have rented points from me via these boards.

Aloha,
Melanie Wells
