Help!! just planned trip 0ct 7-10th...I am a planner,new resort

OK so we just scored 4 plane tickets for $220. We are coming oct 7-10th at wyndham downtown Disney. I have never stayed there before what is it like? All Disney resorts are booked and we have only stayed on site. We plan to just go to the Halloween party on the 8th and relax and resort hop the rest of the time. What do I need to know? We have a trip for January that I have been planning but now this I am soooo excited but clueless. I think we are renting a car to get from the airport can we park at other resorts to look around? I know if you have reservations you can but we won't. Also any free things we can do this will be a very low budget type of trip. We go once a year but we are there at rope drop and to bed a midnight this will be very different. Kids are boy 6 and girl 8. Thanks for all the help!!

I don't think you can park at the resorts. You can use Disney transportation. It's not the fastest, and coming from DTD, it might be a headache, but it is cheap. You can go see all the resorts from there.

Not sure about the resort or driving, but I would visit Fort Wilderness in your position: fishing, pony rides for small fee, a nice boat ride, can do a wagon ride, archery, trail ride, or rent boats or bikes at wilderness lodge. Just research age limits on the archery and horse activities. My 7 and 9 year old last year loved all this! (And we only did 1/2 of that on our rest day!)

You can park at the resorts to look around and eat. The only ones where you won't be able to park are the Epcot resorts because of Food and Wine.

I took a last minute trip this summer and stayed at a different resort in the downtown disney area that uses the same bus system, and I will tell you that we used the bus system once. I will not make that mistake again. It was chaos. I would highly recommend renting a car. Otherwise, it was a wonderful trip. I booked about 3 weeks out and were able to make all fp reservations each night for the next day. Just play it by ear and have fun!!
