I just received a jury duty notice in today's mail. Of all times, I happen to be called the week I'm in WDW. If I mail them documentation that my reservation was booked prior to my jury summons, can I request that my jury duty dates be changed? There is a section on the return postcard titled "To request postponement of your jury service to another date, please state reasons below." Will they accept a pre-planned vacation?

Thanks!

I think it's different in different places. You'll probaby have to call the jury commissioner and ask. It can't hurt to try! They'll probably just give you a postponement if anything.

I've never heard of that reason being turned down - the first time. If you are never available and always have an excuse, eventually they will say tough and make you serve.

I would send them the note explaining the situation and just ask them to change the dates. I have never heard of anyone that was given a hard time about that. How would you know six months in advance when you planned your vacation that you would be called for jury duty? It only figures....it sounds like something that would happen to me:rotfl: .

I see you are from Seaville, is that near South Seaville? I usually go there for the 4th of july, I really like that area. Good luck with the jury duty I'm sure it will be fine. Terri

This happened to me last summer. I just went to the clerk of the courts office and explained to them that I would be in Disney World. I brought my reservation stuff with me for proof, but I didn't need it. The lady was very sweet. She was actually thinking about taking her grandchildren to Disney, but thought it was too expensive. I told her about the Dis and how this is The Place to find out about Disney discounts. Anywho, they let me out of the jury duty, but told me I would have to come to the next session if called no matter what. I was fine with that.

No way was I gonna let jury duty come between me and The Mouse!

ETA: The best part was I didn't get called for the next session. Not that I don't want to serve, but it stresses me out.

Thanks, everybody! The way the correspondence is written, it looks as though I have to mail this inormation back. I'll note on there 'pre-planned vacation; will provide documentation if necessary.' Thank you!

I got a summons for jury duty that would have been in the middle of my honeymoon. I filled out the card asking for a differnt date and a closer courthouse( there are courthouses in 3 different local towns yet I was going to have to go someplace an hour from here). They sent me a new summons with no questions asked. I never even had to speak with anyone.
DH just got his switched due to a work commitment and they had no trouble.
I would recommend letting them know as soon as possible.
Oh, this is totally off topic but I see you are also an Off Kilter fan. I love those guys. My kids got autographs and pics and we have all the CD's. We ran into Randy (guitar) and Jeremy just said Hey I know you "Watermelon,Watermelon, Watermelon" which is his version of Mary Mack!

I have the card set to go in tomorrow's mail. The courthouse should have it on Wednesday. Keep those fingers crossed that all goes smoothly!

I've been an Off Kilter fan/regular for quite some time, and am hopelessly addicted. If you ever go to a show, tell Randy that Debbie in NJ says hello!

Good luck with jury duty. We just went so we will not be back for a while (unless I can convince anyone to take a w/e trip)
My dtr Nicole from MA is a rabid Mark fan and thinks Jamie is pretty darn funny!I think he resembles Jerry Oconnell (you know stand by me/crossing jordan hottie)

I was called for jury duty 3 times and the judges allowed for preplanned vacations. Your Honor will want proof.

snowwite, I can understand why your daughter is a Mark fan. He is very talented, a real sweetheart, and who can't love that Irish accent? :) My loyalties are to Randy (lead guitar), so be sure to tell him that Debbie from NJ sent you - he'd love it!

The way they do jury duty in our county is that you are on-call for 3 months and you check in every weekend to see if you are needed for the following week. If you have a vacation, work trip or something else during those 3 months, you just call the previous week, tell them why you can't be there and you are excused for that time frame. It seems to work pretty well.
