Help! Jeans for Dinner, is it ok?

Yes, jeans are now allowed in the dining rooms.

Being that others have felt compelled to add their thoughts on the policy I will as well. The change in dress code, quite simply, is the dumbing down to the lowest common denominator. While it won't "effect" my dinner, it looks sloppy. I don't care if your jeans cost $15 or $150. They are made of denim and they are not appropriate for the setting. :confused3 I don't know why shorts and tank tops are not allowed if jeans are. I don't know why dry bathing suits are not allowed if jeans are. The difference is all a matter of taste.

Have a wonderful cruise!

Well, apparently you DO let what others wear "affect" your dinner, with such a harsh opinion on it. Try not to let the "lowest common denominator" bother you so much. Avert your gaze from the denim! :rotfl2: We "dumb" denim and khaki-wearers will try not to look your way, either. We'll just be enjoying the cruise, not judging what others wear. :goodvibes

While I personally feel that jeans are inappropiate in the dining room on a cruise, it is done on DCL. While it does not hamper my experience, the wearing of jeans, t-shirts, and baseball caps lessens the overall feeling of the dining room.

If someone said, "is it OK if we leave the nice white table cloth off tonight to save a few dollars" would that not affect the total experience? The food would taste the same, wouldn't it?

It may indeed be a small thing, but I agree that it's a dumbing down and a lessening of general civility in society as a whole.

I disagree. I think you're using a weak analogy. Taking the white table cloth off would directly affect your experience, and you'd have no control over it. What another person wears has no effect on your experience, unless you are paying more attention to what others wear than on your own vacation.

Just pay attention to your own family and dinner and you'll be fine. If you feel that a tux is warranted on a tropical cruise, then by golly, wear a tux, and feel "civil" and "smart" about it. But let others wear what they want to wear. Wear and let wear.

Why be so worried about what others' wear? There are people who feel that what one wears has nothing to do with intelligence or civility.

Also keep in mind that "formal dress" is a concept that varies radically from era to era. What may be formal now may have been considered "lowest common denominator" in other times, and the pendulum will probably swing back that way someday. Holding to strict dress codes on a tropical vacation cruise in modern times just doesn't comport with how modern society views dress codes. I disagree that this is "dumbing down" or appealing to the "lowest common denominator." I feel it's a reflection of the times.

If you want to talk about "dumbing down", let's discuss the other cruise lines, where passengers squander what spending money they have on the casino roulette wheels (I personally find casinos to be "dumb" and lack "civility"), and not about people's personal dress choices on their vacation.
