by the portal to hell!

It is after midnight. That makes this August 3. The day we leave for Disney. Am I too excited to sleep, you ask? No.

DS9 got up at 10:30 and said he was nauseous. And it didn't look like "excited" nausea, it looked like SICK nausea. :sad2: He sat in the bathroom for awhile but nothing happened. He decided to lay in the hallway in front of the bathroom door. So when he vomited everywhere at 11:15 he absolutely covered the carpet in the hallway. The carpet is very light sand color. We had pasta with red sauce for dinner. Perfect.

I scooted him into the bathroom where he kept vomiting. All over the floor. On the wall, on the shower curtain, with a grand finale of some actually getting into the toilet. I feel so bad for him! He is so sad that he is sick on departure day, and I have no idea what to expect! I HOPE this will be one of those very SHORT little vomit virus deals, but I bet it won't be. :guilty:

DH woke up from the commotion. He has to go to work. Now. Well, he was planning to get up at 12:30 but since there wasn't much chance of him going back to sleep he is in the shower.

I scrubbed the carpet, I scrubbed the bathroom. I rinsed out my bathroom rug in the toilet. As soon as DH is out of the shower I will start the washer with all the bathroom stuff. I will say that Resolve Dual Power is pretty impressive.

UGH!! WHY could this day not have been a normal day? Why is that? Why does there have to be vomit? Why does DS have to be sick? What are the chances that I will get any sleep at all? I have to go in to work for 3.5 hours today, so that just ratchets that stress up another couple of notches. If DS is truly sick we should probably NOT fly out this evening. If we aren't flying out I should not print our boarding passes. This is not good.

Anyway, if anybody has some good thoughts to help get me through this day I sure could use them!

:confused3 I tried to think if something comforting to say...but that really rots is all that comes to mind. Here's a big old " :grouphug: ". I sure hope your ds is better in time to fly out (kids do bounce back super quick sometimes). Hugs to you all and good luck in getting everything cleaned up!

Oh I'm sorry. How did he feel after he threw up? If he felt much better, he's probably ok. Maybe it was just nerves and excited anxiety that made him throw up. I hope he's better when he wakes up in the morning.

He said he felt well enough to get back in his bed while I decided how to tackle the clean up. DH went to check on him shortly thereafter and he told DH he is fine. He wasn't feverish, so that's one good thing.

He has already had a vomit virus twice this summer - once right after Memorial Day and then again 3 weeks after that. Both of those were pretty short. The little guy I nanny has also had it twice, and both times he only felt sick for about half a day even though the second time he got sick he also had a fever.

I spoke to a friend earlier who has been sick and her DH has been home from work for the past 2 days with a stomach virus. That worries me, because it may mean that a longer lasting strain is going around.

Stay tuned. The day is young. All manner of catastrophes could still be in the cards for me, including being ingested by a giant reptile!

Gosh, why do horrible things like this happen at THE most inopportune times? My friend just lost all her digital photos she took of her son's first birthday party...everything, gone. I hate stuff like that.

Anyway, I don't think you should cancel your flight tonight. I bet he will get better and if you don't go you will be wishing you had. Just do what you can to make him as comfortable as possible during the trip. Besides, I know if I were sick I'd rather be sick in WDW than at home; at least the second I got better I'd be right there at Disney's doorstep.

I wish you guys the best and hope that in 24 hours this will all be behind you and the biggest stress you will have is which ride to go on first!!

Think happy thoughts! :butterfly :flower1: :tink: :goofy: :mickeybar ::MickeyMo :shamrock: :cutie: pixiedust: :beach: :flower3:

No advice, just a  . I hope your little guy is feeling better in the AM & that you have a wonderful trip!

Chances are it is a short virus. I would give your Dr a call and explain that you are leaving at what ever time that day and see if first they know of any bug going around and how long it lasts and second if he could give your DS the anti-vomiting medication (can't remember the name) so you can at least make your flight.

I used to joke with our dr that every time I made vacation plans I should just schedule a dr's appointment because one of the kids ALWAYS gets sick before we go somewhere. DS11 was on antibiotics for a ear infection when we were at Disney last summer.

Well, he threw up again at 4:30 and again at 6:20. I don't know what to think. On my whopping 3 hours of sleep I don't know if I am capable of thinking.

I will call the Dr. when the office opens and see if they have any useful advice.

I know the procedure for changing our flights, so even though that would be prohibitively expensive it could be done. The thing I don't know is how to change the hotel and Dining Plan. The park passes we are upgrading to APs so that's not a problem. I guess I will call my AAA agent if the Dr. doesn't have anything encouraging to offer. :guilty:

EDIT: Oh, my! It will cost over $1100 to change our flight to tomorrow! OK, pixie dust needed over here, please!!! :wizard:

DD6 just had a puking thing that lasted one day (of course, the one day we were going to the beach.) She slept a lot that day and the next day, probably because I had given her Dramamine before the 4 hour drive home. She was completely normal by the day after that.

I bet your son will be fine. Talk to the doctor about what meds to take today and to take with you, and bring a thermometer with you. We had to buy one at WDW once, and it was pretty expensive.

Does he have a fever? Is he listless? If the answer to either of these is yes, take him to the doc. You will probalby have to call and explain to work why you won't be in for the 3.5 hours you are supoosed to be today, and they, of course, will think you are lying and just blowing them off to get to your vacation earlier.

If he just has vomited a coupel of times, maybe it is a combination of what he ate + the WDW excitement. Give him some ginger ale, toast...light diet and see what happens.

Although inopportune, vomiting is a good natural response to get whatever the "offending" thing is out of the system.

No fever, but he isn't running around like he usually does. I called the Dr. and they said it is a virus. It starts out with vomiting for 12-24 hours, then it turns into fever and diarrhea that can last for days. Yay. He hasn't thrown up since 6:15 AM, so it seems to be getting better. He has had some Sprite and some Gatorade mixed with water (pediatrician's suggestion). I just gave him a small cup of Pepsi because he said his head was hurting - a bit of caffeine usually helps with that.

The doctor won't call in any meds for him, they just said to keep him hydrated. He has managed to eat half an apple and some crackers, so we'll see how it goes! The airport shuttle is coming in 2 hours.

My sincere hope is that he gets over it quickly and it doesn't linger through the whole trip. I also hope DH & I don't come down with it!

Good luck! I suggest feeding him "light" things during your trip- hopefully he won't get the other half of this!

I would still do the Dramamine if you have time to get it. Good luck!

ETA: And maybe Imodium (or something else for diarrhea) if there's a kids' dosage for it.

I have Dramamine somewhere. It is packed, but I might be able to find it. I also have Immodium, which is also packed. I might need to go dig those out and put them in my purse. ;)

I don't know if you will check back in here before your trip, but if you find you need a pediatrician while visiting here that isn't in an emergency room setting, there is

Night Lite Pediatrics
13750 W Colonial Drive
Winter Garden, FL 34787
407-905-4717

they are really great here and very helpful. They are open M-F 4 pm-midnight
Sat/Sun 12 pm til midnight.

You can get there easily by just going through DD (past Saratoga Springs and the Firestation-DO NOT HEAD DOWN HOTEL PLAZA BLVD) turn left on sr535 aka WINTERGARDEN-Vineland Rd follow for 11 miles or so turn left into the PUBLIX plaza and they are in here. There is a 24 hour Walgreens in front in case you need a Rx filled.

Good Luck and I hope you have a great trip!! The weather is sunny and HOT today. (as per usual) :sunny:
