I am deciding on whether to make the plunge and be part of the DVC world.

We have a promotion that will allow us to buy into Bay Lake Tower at $96 a point (for 200 points).

Is this a good deal or should I hold out and hopefully look for lower rates.

We are a family of five and while money is tight...I think this is lower than previously seen but not for sure. Maybe others are aware of other promos that are better.

Any thoughts soon will help as this promo ends tomorrow and they say...it will go back up to $107 per point.

Thanks in advance for your reply...........

While incentives can always be better down the road, I do think that the $96.00 per point is a good price for BLT (added on points there myself in April and just did another add on this week for another 50).

As you mention, BLT is rumored to be going back to $107.00 per point on Monday. If you start the paperwork and the incentives get better before you close the contract, you can always re-do the contracts.

That is what I did in the spring. I had started the add on before the current incentives but had not closed, and I was able to take advantage of them. Just called, they stopped the first contracts, rewrote them, and I was able to take advantage of the better price.

Good luck!

IF owning DVC and BLT make sense for you, it's a decent deal. It likely won't be much or any better going forward unless you wait long enough for resales. Please ponder whether DVC is right for you and whether it's worth paying $96 pp for BLT when you could buy SSR for under $70 a point, sometimes well under. DVC can be a good choices if and only if you plan to use your points at DVC resorts, value staying on property and will go lighter or neutral on weekends. Buying BLT points only makes sense if you'll spend the majority of your trips there.

If you want to stay at BLT, that's probably not bad.

If you are wanting to get your foot in the door at a wonderful price, I would consider SSR resale for $70 or less a point. Depending on how tight money is, you could buy 100 to 150 and bank or borrow points and take a nice DVC trip every other year. Also, with SSR you could get a 3 bedroom tree house for the points of a 2 bedroom and every child could have their own bed instead of someone having to sleep on a pull-out sofa.

I also echo what the others have said. One more thing if you are not planning more that 7 months out, points are points so then you would be crazy not to go with something like SSR. SSR has low pt buy in and low MF. With that said I did add on at BLT but that is because I want the booking window advantage and paid 96 pt.

Good advice. I don't particularly care for SSR myself, and really love the location, views, and amenities of BLT, so I'll pick BLT over SSR any day. However, from a purely financial standpoint, SSR via the resale market is less expensive.

One other thing to consider is that the BLT MF's are $.67 less per point than SSR which makes them the lowest (I think VGC is a close second). We just switched our 100 pt add on from SSR to BLT since it all balances out with the difference in the MFs. We did originally purchase SSR via resale though, and did pay alot less, but I was told by our resale broker that there won't be many BLT resale points out there for less than they are with the current incentives for quite awhile.

Not sure what you mean by it all balances out, no way does a diff in price of $26 a pt make up for .67 off MF. Plus going resale with SSR you are more likely to get a loaded contract. The only reason to buy BLT is for the 7-11 month resservation window. At 7 months points are points except the MF you pay. With this said I did buy at BLT but that is becasue I want the booking window.

With developers subsidies, it's unlikely to remain that much difference. While BLT has more points to spread the fees over AND a smaller footprint, I think the things that add to extra costs like transportation, will at least balance that issue. I think you can expect SSR to be one of the cheapest long term from a dues standpoints, likely cheaper than OKW due to the building setup.

How did you get a promotion for $96 per point? I bought in on Fri. for $112 per point. I would say you got a great deal!

The base price of $112 was reduced by $8 as part of a standard promotion they were running. Another $6 off based off of a minimum of 200 points purchased. There was another $2 off as I had a referral from a friend. Finally...at the last minute I recall that I received an email to watch a webcast for the DVC and by registering to that there was another $2 off...the grand total ws $94 per point. I am surprised that at the minimum you did not qualify for the $8 off (unless your buy in was below $160).

Sorry, I made a mistake. I bought 200 points & my guide told me the price was $112 per point. He did say I would get $8 per point towards down payment & another $8 per point for member referral (a little different than what you got). I was not told about the webcast. When I do the math, I paid $96 per point, not $112. You saved $400 more than me by getting the email to watch the webcast. Great deal!
