Hope someone can help my head is swimming I need insurance for myself and dd 2 age 17. We went to turkey last year and the plane was delayed for 21hrs so thompsons didn't have to pay comp and when I tried with insurance Virgin they said I hadn't included that component. Anyway now we are going to Disney I need to make sure we are covered for delay and also ? Volcanic ash we fly on sept 1 back on 8th/9th. Can anyone advise :confused3

I went with Direct Travel again this year. Last year they did cover volcanic ash as standard. This year it is a £20 add on option but they cover you for both ways in the event of delay or cancellation. Also, as it is just me and my DD, I only pay for myself which is an added bonus. It cost me just over £100 with the add on, but I went for the highest level of cover. I have had quite a lot of correspondence with them by phone and by email last year and again for the new policy this year and I cannot fault them on their communication and prompt, detailed responses, which is something I always use as a guage to test the water. (Yes, I will even ask a question I know the answer to, just to test how they handle their responses). I got 18% casback on Topcashback too.

We have gone with Columbus this year, hope I don't claim to find out how good they are, you can add volcanic ash cover. Even though it affected us last Easter its not something that concerns me, the chances of it happening again are minute.
For travel delay cover even with good insurance its a nominal amount you get, usually something like £20/12 hours if you have an excess on your policy its usually not worth claiming.
See if Quidco have any offers, we got 18% cashback with Columbus.

We're using Insure and Go again this time because they cover my pre-existing condition without any problems (other than the declaration of it). We had to claim last time for a problem with DD's ear and the claim was handled smoothly and promptly. I'm a bit worried though as we haven't paid anywhere near £100 for the 4 of us. DH arranged it and he has a more laid back attitude than me - I'd cover us for every eventuality. I doubt he's even thought about volcanic ash.

You may find that they let you upgrade your policy if you are really concerned about ash cloud cover. Have a look at your policy schedule and see what you are covered for. :goodvibes

We have used Insure and Go for our trip this year which includes for travel delays and supplier failure insurance.

However, before buying any insurance, I would recommend that you call the company and check that it does cover you.

Also, if an annual policy, make sure it will allow you to add-on any medical conditions that may be diagnosed after you take out the policy but before you travel - I found this out to my cost when I was diagnosed with a medical condition but the original insurer (insurefor) told me the policy could not be upgraded to cover the condition.
