Help! I'm lost

Thank you for all your help. We are getting a car but only for the first day. Plan to drop it at the car center. At first I was gong to use DME and just walk to the supermarket near DTD. I asked a while back about getting my stuff to the actual site and someone said they would drop it for us. I figured by the time we get there, wait for our luggage at the fort from DME then wait till they drop it at the site (I was told we had to be there) this would take all day.

So now the plan is to get the car, quick run to super walmart for a cheap box fan, few souvenirs for nieces and nephews and snacks. And anything else forget to pack, even with all my lists I forget something. :

Yep, no problem with the footlockers, they are airline legal. Just don't lock them for the flight. I added straps to mine to help keep them closed. (I actually drilled a couple of holes to the sides of the footlocker and secured the straps to the footlocker with nuts, bolts, and the big washers)

Yea... I'm just not that handy. But I do love my duct tape!

golf carts are to get you from one place to another, however, they are better used to "stroll" around the loops and meet fellow DIS'ers!

Campers avoid cooking if they don't want to cook. If you feel like you have to, then by all means...

If you don't want to cook, Trails End has a wonderful take out menu....

Stoll where? To the bathrooms and showers? Out to eat? To catch the bus? I guess I am just having trouble picturing the need. Are things really spread out?

no, i think you misunderstood...many people use their golf carts to ride around and look at the other campsites and basically to say hi...some people have even been accused (mike) of stalking other DIS'ers in order to meet them...but i am not naming names

Just to let you know, the Fort is over a mile from one end to the other. There are over 700 campsites at the Fort. There are 3 areas of the Fort that folks travel to.

Outpost - where you check in, and the main bus depot for all destinations except Magic Kingdom.

Meadows - centrally located in the campground. A large trading post, the main pool, the bike barn where you can rent bikes, golf carts, canoes, kayaks, fishing poles, etc., and the nightly movie and campfire with Chip and Dale.

Settlement, a trading post, Trails End, Crocketts tavern, Hoop-De-Doo, Mickey's Backyard barbecue, and the marina is nearby, there is boat transportation to MK, Contemporary, and Wilderness Lodge. There is also a bus depot there with transportation to Wilderness Lodge and other points around Ft. Wilderness.

There are buses that will come by your loop and get you to wherever you need to go in the campground. Many find those fine, but some folks get frustrated to wait up to 10 minutes for a bus to arrive and take them to either end of a campground, only to have to wait up to 20 minutes for other transportation to take them to their ultimate destination, when it is just a 2 or 3 minute golf cart ride to the various points in the campground.

Also, private vehicles are not allowed to just drive around to various points in the campground. You can only park at your site and the outer parking lot.

So for example if you wanted to go to the pool, you can't just drive over, it's walk, bus, bicycle, or golf cart. If you wanted to go to dinner at Trail's End, same thing.

I'm hoping that gives you a better idea why so many folks like to have their own form of internal transportation around Ft. Wilderness. I don't have a golf cart, but do have a bicyle.

There is golf cart parking and bicyle racks around the various points at Ft. Wilderness.
