I just can't seem to get myself motivated about losing weight these past few weeks. I've lost 20 pounds since the beginning of the year, and I'm really proud of myself, but I can feel myself slipping back in to those old bad habits. You know a trip to the drive though here,a chocolate bar there. Before I know it I'll have those 20 back and then some!!! Help get me back on track!!!

You can do it! Maybe take a snack with you when you go out so you won't hit the fast food?...Drink a glass of water before you decide to eat the chocolate...20 lbs it AWESOME!

Hang in there!

PS. San Diego is amazing! Your so lucky to live there!

Hi, I believe that you're doing WW, I don't do that so I really don't know too much about it. However I wonder if there is a way for you to incorporate the occasional fast food or chocolate bar into your regular eating programme, so that you're not cheating. IMHO eating a chocolate bar is not a bad habit, it is how many chocolate bars that you eat :hyper: Perhaps you just need to think a little differently about what and how you're eating. No matter what you should feel proud of yourself for losing the 20lbs. Good luck with the rest of your journey, I am sure that you can do it. Remember onward and downward :grouphug:

Hi, Melissa!

Wow, 20 pounds is a great loss!!! :) It's time to give yourself a pep talk. Maybe you can list some goals here - sometimes if I write or type things out it helps me to focus on what I want and gets me really jazzed up about sticking with my program! :)

Are you feeling unmotivated because you haven't lost much lately? Do you think that the shorter days are causing you to feel a little blah or unenergetic? If you are working out, are you feeling like you are in a rut with your exercise routine?

How did you feel when you got your 20 pound clippie? Try to recapture that excitement!!! I know each time I changed my clippie it was a great incentive to keep moving towards the next one!

You can do this, you know! You lost 20 pounds already, which is excellent!!! Don't put a time limit on it, don't think, "Well, it's already mid October and I've only lost 20 pounds, who cares about eating right anyway." Think like this, "Wow, I've taken off 20 pounds and kept it off! I might want a chocolate bar or fast food now and then, but I've done a great job keeping these 20 pounds off and I know I can take off another (insert whatever amount here)."

I know once in a while I get tired of counting points or not being able to just open the pantry door and eat mass quantities of whatever is lurking in there. But then I'll get the tape measure out and look at my old waist measurements and wrap the tape measure around my waist and SEE how much air there is between my stomach and the tape measure! ;) Do whatever you need to in order to feel good about where you are right now and sit and think about where you want to be.

When I was a little kid, we used to drive from Massachusetts to Maryland for a one week vacation with my parents. My Dad made ONE STOP the entire trip. That was to gas up the car, go to the bathroom and stretch our legs. No other stops, just ONE! We would get to Maryland in about 8 hours. :) That's just always stuck with me, only make one stop on long car trips. My DH isn't like that though. So now when we travel long distances we'll stop for a potty break, then stop again later for gas, then stop again to get a drink or some lunch. It takes us longer to get to our destination because of the extra stops but we still make it. So one way or another, you'll get to your goal!::yes::

Sending motivational ~*~*~*~PD~*~*~* your way! Losing interest? In yourself? Impossible! Keep doing whatever it was that was giving you success. Also, check how your clothes are fitting, and how your eating habits have changed. Even though you may want to go back to your old ways, I'll bet there are things you don't really like anymore and new foods that are better for you that you actually enjoy! That is a take-with you-everywhere success. Some things to remember are paying attention to your triggers, and do your best to avoid them, and don't let the time of year mess with you either! Our bodies are used to cyclical eating, and it is not your imagination that we tend to eat more in the fall. It is sort of hard wired in us and may take a bit more gumption to get trhough this part of your journey. Think of something else you've done in your life that started out not so bad, then got ugly but you got through it and the reward was great! (i always think of the transitional phase of childbirth :earseek: , but there are others) You are a power to be reckoned with and you don't want to be bothered anymore. I know the feeling, but in this journey, you cannot fail. We won't let you! Back on track with you!

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

You can do it! Youve done great so far. Everyone has given you such great ideas
Maybe you need a goal to focus on - the holidays are coming up. Wouldnt it be great to be at goal for the family get togethers?

Melissa,

20 lbs is wonderful! You've worked so hard so don't give it up now. If you are on WW then you know that's why points and especially flex points are all about.

It is about eating what you want, but in moderation. So now when I think about a candy bar or doing drive through lunch instead of brining something more healthy I stop and think. I look at my planned points for the day. If I ate that candy bar what would I give up in its place. Will i be happier with a 6 point candy bar or would 2 points worth of pretzels make me just as happy. If you really really want it - then do it. What about activity points to work it off?

You have to treat yourself sometimes. Think about the WW commercial where the woman goes into a coffee shop and gets a cookie. Her friend says she can't have a cookie on her diet and the WW person says maybe that's why she's no longer on her diet.

Remember that not matter what your program it isn't a DIEt, it is a LIFEstyle change!

You can do it!

You know I am in the same boat. I have lost all together about 23 pounds this year. I started in may then ditched the diet from june till sept. and then I found WISH and got back on. Since WISH about 10 pounds. Anyway I too have found myslef losing it at times Ill tell ya hardest times for me are the weekends. We are so busy with kids sports that I have no time to concentrate on me and what Im eating. Furthermore we are always out so that limites me to waht kind of food I can eat. But....... as much as I hate to admit it, The Dr. Phil book has been helping me out. I am not a reader, I never finish a book and no I have not yet finished this book but I keep it bedside and promised no matter how long it takes I am gonna finish it. SO the few times I have slipped I have picked up the book and got back on track. I really dont think your a lost cause because ...........THIS IS SO IMPORTANT TO YOU THAT YOU WROTE THIS THREAD!!!!!!! YOU SEE YOU STARTED THIS THREAD BECAUSE YOU ARE REACHING OUT FOR HELP, WANT SOME INSPIRATION ETC. SO DEEP DOWN INSIDE YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. YOUR NOT SLIPPING YOUR JUST DIPPING!!(lol) ups and downs is what it s all about. We are all in a challenge (keyword) and it wouldnt be a challenge if it were eady. It wouldn't be a challenge if we could just glide to our goal. We will all have good days and bad ones. And we will all have our highs and our lows (DIPS). My goodness I am starting to talk and think like PHIL, believe it or not I never liked him but I just realized he makes sense. Feel free to email me I really do feel for ya. Every word in your thread hit home with me cause I do feel exactly like that at times. good luck hope to hear from ya.

Everyone has given you so many great inspirational posts already. I just wanted to let you know that I too believe that you can do this. You did reach out when you knew you needed too and that is wonderful instead of just going on the way you were. If you are doing WW as other say, then you can have that candy bar if you want it every now and then. I bet you truly don't want it as much now as you did before you started this journey.

Keep up the hard work and faith and we'll keep cheering you on.

I think we all have times when it seems easy to stay focused and do the right thing, as well as times when the motivation just isn't there.

When the latter happens, I've found that it helps if I focus on one specific thing, and acheive that. That produces that feeling of accomplishment that helps to drive me towards the next goal. For example, I don't worry about what I'm going to do all day, I'll just focus on breakfast, and tell myself I'll deal with lunch (or whatever) later.

Best case is that I pick up momentum and end-up having a great day, worst case is that at least the day isn't a total loss. Even if you are only "hit and miss" for awhile, that will probably be enough to maintain your weight, so that when that next burst of motivation comes along, you won't have any backtracking to do.

How about taking a picture from when you were 20 lbs heavier and one now and keeping them with you. When you feel the need to go astray, look at the 2 pictures for some incentive to keep going.

I find that once I am on track, I do very well, but the minute I go off, I end up going way, way off. I ask myself, what is more important, eating _______ or having a loss on the scale next week? Usually, that is enough to keep the hungry horrors at bay.

You have done so well, don't beat yourself up over a little slip now and then, just get back on track and you will be ok.

Hang in there Melissa :) I'm sure this is just a slump ... it happens all the time to me. Look at how much you've accomplished, 20 pounds is an amazing weight loss! An occasional treat is okay, that's what the Flex Points are for :p If you're feeling a little guilty, you could always go for a walk and earn some activity points.

Just keep focused on what you've accomplished so far! All of your WISH friends are here to support you ::yes::

Take your “here and there” and journal everything. Maybe you need to actually see what it is you are doing. Sometimes that helps me. Make the good choices and “plan” your bad ones so that you are still in control. Try to plan in some extra movement as an offset.
You can get through this. It is a lifestyle change and good and bad happen. Focus more on the success you have had, you can see your success and you are successful! Good luck and keep on keepin’ on. You are doing this for you. You are worth it.

Glad you're getting a lot of support and encouragement here in your slump time. By posting your issue, you know you really do want to stay on track, just needing a little uplift - good for you for admitting you sometimes need help. Great loss so far, just try to get a mental picture in your head of what goal would look like - keep plugging along. I made it to goal a couple of years ago (before having DS) and it was really great - it is a feeling worth the hard work, trust me! It is a good enough feeling, that I am steadily working my way back there!

You may want to also talk to your WW leader at your next meeting. I think they actually have a brochure for when someone needs extra encouragement to keep going (I read something about it in like week 5 materials maybe?). Anyway, bring it up at your group - I'm sure you're not the only one who has needed help out of a slump, and people are usually more than willing to help someone out of that situation.

Check in again and let everyone know how you are doing and if you are finding rejouvination - I hope so!!!

Keep WISHing!! :sunny:
