Hi friends,

My DH and I are heading to Toronto for couple days of "alone" time and I was hoping to ask my Canadian friends a couple questions??

First, how are gas prices? Prices have soared here (metro Detroit) to over $3.00/gallon because of Hurricane Katrina and because of the holiday weekend. So, I was wondering what we could expect over there?

Also, any suggestions of restaurants we can try while in Tornoto?

Thanks!

Gas is currently at about $3.91 US a gallon over here or $1.24 a litre.

Just saw it at $1.02/litre (about $3.25/gal US) here in Oakville so it is coming way down really fast. Where are you staying in Toronto? We'll try to recommend something close by.

We are staying at the Sheraton Centre on Queen Street.

Thanks for any recommendations!

You will love the Sheraton Centre, I have stayed there several times on business. THe Steak house in the Hotel (Le Bifteque) is quite good, and the hotel will give you a map to the underground mall that they are attached to. About a 15 minute walk through the mall, is Marche Movenpick, which my DW loves.

What kind of dining were you interested in? You can go with the Sheraton restaurant which would be considered fine dining (based on price) or you can venture out into the city and explore. My recomendation is to walk out of the hotel and onto Queen St. From there, head west. Once you pass the CityTV building and the corner of Queen and John streets, you will have so much to choose from. Try www.dine.to as a start.

Don't rule out Chinatown!! Some of the restaurants may look scary, but the food is sensational and the municipal government has a sticker system in effect that you may find amusing. It works something like this... inspectors routinely inspect dining facilities in T.O. and all restaurants receive window/door stickers that they must post on their door or in their window letting potential guests know of their report. Green sticker is a pass, yellow (I think) is warning to fix something, and red is fail. Perhaps someone else can fill you in on that. :goodvibes

Hi,

We frequent the Korean Grill House on Queen st. West. It is mere minutes walking from your hotel.

We love it. You cook your own food at a grill right at your table. You can order right off the menu or get the all you can eat. There is night owl (after 10?) price of 8.99 a person.

You might want to get the number from the front desk/phone book if you plan to go on a weekend night. It can get busy on these days. You can bypass the line. It is so close to your hotel. North side just west of University ...big yellow sign. So you can check it out before hand if you want.

Enjoy!

I also love the Movenpick as the previous poster stated. (walk around and choose your food at markets...actually like the Pepper Market at CS) There is another location which is now renamed Richtree. It's beautiful and festive. It is in the BCE place by the Hockey Hall of Fame (Yonge and Front.....restaurant is huge...backs onto Wellington).

I stayed at the Sheraton in the summer. And they were doing extensive renovations to the lobby then. The renderings looked beautiful. Have a wonderful time.
