We leave on Tuesday - and this morning I woke up with the makings of a cold! I knew those sneezes a few days ago were going to lead somewhere. What can I do to get over this quick?!?! I am afraid of the kids getting it and ruining our vacation! Is there anything I can take to shorten the length of the cold? :confused3

Echinacea, Zinc and Vitamin C. There's also those fizzy tablets you dissolve in water...not sure if it's called Airborne...check the drugstore. I always go with the first 3...you can take up to 1000 mg of C a day. Anything your body does not use you pee out. Feel better! :flower3:
We're leaving Thursday!
Make sure you wash your hands or use hand sanitizer, wipe anything you touch with a wipe or spray w/Lysol as to not pass it on to any one else in the house.
Could it be allergies? The pollen count is high right now in my area....

Thanks! Heading to the store as soon as I get myself together. I never get sick - this must be payback for something..... lol

When I feel the makings of a cold starting, i take emergen-c. It's a powder mix i add with water that has 1,000 mg of vitamin c. I take it about twice a day and after 2 days, I usually feel back to normal. You can find it at any grocery store, rite aid, walgreens, etc.. We always take a box with us when we go on a trip. No one wants to be sick on vacation.

Go get Zicam. It comes in spray, melts, nose swabs. Also drink lots of water. Good luck!!

ohh, i feel for you...u gotta hear what my son did though, we went to DL in sept, we are a family of 5 who travelled with another family of 5...on the trip, 7 out of 10 of us ended up with a really bad cold...(i wasnt one of them)...well, my son first started to feel it one morning, that night we went to dennys for dinner and he ordered himself a carafe of orange juice, we all laughed at him :rotfl2: , and he told me he was gonna get rid of his cold...guess what, next morning, he was almost totally fine :thumbsup2 ....the rest of the group fought the cold all week and then for a short time once we got home...my son got to laugh at everyone..who know, tons of vitamin C did the trick for him...get as much rest as you can too..without a fever, a cold shouldnt get in the way too much...have a great trip and hope you are feeling much better

Thanks everyone! I've been loading up on vitamin C. Taking a break from packing to get a DIS fix. That always makes me feel better. lol I tried some airborne, but it tasted too nasty to stomach!

I always get the zicam nose swabs and swab my dd too if any of us is getting sick before a trip, maybe it is worthless but I think it helps.

As a Kindergarten teacher, when I see that my students are starting to get sick, I take extra vitamins c and wash my hands constantly. My advice to you is to have your children take vitamin C and make sure they wash their hands often. Better safe than sorry. ;)

I was also going to say...1000 of Vitamin and lots of Zinc...it totally got me through nursing school without catching a cold..

Elderberry syrup is my miracle cure. It is an extremely effective antiviral. Not only can it sometimes knock out the cold before it gets started, if you do still get the bug, its much shorter and almost always prevents any secondary infections (sinus, ears, etc.)

They have tested it on colds and also flu. It shortened flu symptoms by an average of 4 days! I use it in combo with the C, Zinc, and Echinacea.

I keep it stocked always and use it at the first tickle.

I like echinacea tea...I think that has lessened my colds. This past cold I had, I had run out of echinacea tea. I really felt that cold was much worse than previous, but you never really know if it might have been that way anyways??? :confused3

:thumbsup2 :wizard:
..... chicken soup with lots of garlic
..... lots of hot tea
......oranges
......lots of water
and make sure you take some time to relax (that is the hardest thing)

Have a great trip:wizard:
