Gosh I remember when I was in HS they timed us to see how many sit ups we could do in say 60 seconds. Of course I was alot thinner back then and more in shape too. I was using the method that I had been taught way back then. Arms crossed over chest and elbows touch the knees.
I will try your method though!
BTW, I took a hot shower and I seem to have loosened it up a little. It is still sore though.
