Help!! I think I have an eating disorder

I would assume as a lifeguard you do a lot of walking during the day. I am 45 have had 5 children, am 5'4" and weigh between 125 and 127. I don't diet and I can eat the way you describe how you are eating. I really don't exercise, but I do move around a lot at work. I have found that my body goes through a period where I just need more fuel, but then other times I eat less. Try not to stress about it for a while and see what happens.

When I read this I saw "I am 54 and have 45 children..."

I think it's naptime.

You are worse than I am!

I'm wondering if maybe you are lacking something that your body needs. You do need a doctor who will listen to you and give you a thorough check-up. No one else knows your body better than you do and they really should listen.

Have you always avoided beef & pork or is this something recent?

I'm the same way. I'm about 5'3" and weigh about 115. I eat constantly. Constantly. You might just have a fast metabolism.

If you are having regular cycles and are sure you're not pregnant I wouldn't worry too much. I was like that before I had my baby....ate like a trucker and never gained weight. On the other hand, many people told me I hardly ate anything, but if you asked me I thought I was eating like a real pig. No matter how much I ate (and I was always hungry!) I stayed the same weight (not underweight, not overweight) for years.

Is it possible you are eating right, excercising right, but somehow thinking your balance between food and excercise is off?

I am so scared and confused. I think I have an eating disorder but no one will believe me. I went to 2 different doctors and seen a specialist. One of them laughed at me and thought I was joking. I am 5 foot 5 inches tall and at this very moment I weigh 127 pounds.

Here's the problem: I eat all the time. I am now even "sneaking" food. I go to dinner or lunch with friends or family and I'll eat sald, soup and a meal. THEN after about 45 minutes at home I find myself eatting AGAIN :earseek: I don't over stuff myself when I am out but when I get home I Pig out !!

What is wrong with me?? :confused3

Please help, any advice will be GREATLY appreciated.

Do you pudge? Do you do anything else or just eat a lot?

I know small people who eat a lot and it's just the way they are... if you aren't doing anything unhealthy, don't fret.

But I would add excercise to that, becuz out bodies need that no matter what size you are!

I have binge eating disorder. I just ate 3 candy bars and a bag of chips. *faints* NO! NO! NO! I dun't wanna get fat!!!!!!!! AAAAH!!

I know you said you had your blood sugar tested, but you may have hypoglycemia(low blood sugar). I do. My blood sugar tests are normal, but my numbers drop before meals. I need to eat every 2 1/2-3 hrs. ( a protein and starch to keep blood sugar from dropping) WHen it gets low I'll eat and eat and it takes sometimes a few hrs. until I feel normal. Symptoms of low blood sugar: shaking(esp. in hands), headache, confusion, weakness, tired, grouchy). A dietition helped me with this more than the Drs.

Bugger off.

I wasn't posting to be sarcastic, I really did eat that much. Thats why I searched for this thread and found it because I was really sad.

There is much more to consider than simply your weight. I would suggest you talk to your doctor about performing some blood tests. I know many people who are over weight and eat less than I do in a day. It's my belief that some people are heavier than others and there really isn't much they can do about it no matter what they eat. It's just a part of heredity. I also know many others who can eat nonstop and never gain a pound.

I seen you stated you don't eat much junk food, and that's fantastic, but it's my opinion that you should have your cholesterol checked routinely and while you might be on the thin sign, it doesn't exclude your for heart disease.

IMO, if blood work comes back and it's pretty conclusive that you've got problems, you're all the better off because you can start changing things now. If all testing comes back inline though, it's my guess that you're letting your imagination get the better of you.

I know you stated that you had your thyroid checked and everything was "fine." But did the doctors actually tell you the numbers?

Reason I ask is that I am having some thyroid issues now. Now, I do not have a thyroid gland so I am taking Synthroid and have been for the last 10 years. When my thyroid levels get to a certain range (and this is a VERY narrow window), I get ravenous. This has started happening to me in the last few weeks.

I have been starving and eating everything in sight. I will go out and eat a normal meal for lunch and then 30 minutes later, I'm saying "where's the food, I'm starving." I can tell and FEEL that there is food in my stomach but I still feel hungry. And I will then snack a lot between meals. I then got on the scale because I thought for sure that I must have put on a few pounds. Nope, I think I lost 2 lbs! Had my thyroid checked and sure enough, my TSH was down from the last time. It fell from .95 to .36. Now, .5 is the bottom of the normal range. I am SURE at .5, I probably started to feel hungry.

So my point is, your thyroid numbers may be "normal" on paper but they may not be normal for you. The "world" of endocrinology is finding that out now. Their "normal" range is very large and some people are suffering from thyroid issues while their lab work says otherwise. I believe the normal thyroid range is .5 - 3.4. Now if you told me that your thyroid labwork said "3.4" then I would discount it being a thyroid issue. But if it is closer to lower end, you could have a problem here.

I would call you doctor and at least see if you can pick up a copy of your lab results.
