We had a horrible summer - my MIL passed away from ovarian cancer about 2 weeks ago, and we spent the summer basically nursing her, and letting everything fall to the back burner - long story short - 65 points expired on 8/2 - is there ANY way disney will give them back? Like pay a penalty? My DH is literally about to divorce me over this...

TIA!

I lost a dear friend this summer to lung cancer, so I understand why everything else took a back seat. Hang in there, grief is a slow process, and we all deal with it in different ways. DH is probably just focusing on this because it is less painful. You did the more important thing in supporting and caring for your MIL.

I'm sorry I don't have the answer to your question. Hopefully DVC has some sort of bereavement policy. Good luck.

He is going to divorce you over this? After all you have been through? If you can summon the strength, bless him out to the best of your ability, then tell him that the subject is closed. (I do have some teensy weensy anger issues.lol.)

It's his mom that passed away, there's a lot of anger, but a lot of the burden fell on me. And I am a procrastinator by nature, so a lot of things that I would catch at the last minute, I missed. I am just WAY flaky lately and it's getting annoying, I guess

Foofanella,
Did you try to contact your guide and Dvc yet? I don't know if they will do anything but it's worth a try.
I'm so sorry for your loss of your MIL.

I don't understand the expiration on 8/2. Are these August points or Sept points? You should have banked them months ago to use them in the next use year.

The problem with banked points expiring is that there is no way to retrieve them. The system is set up to work with the specific number of points alotted for each resort. If they inadvertaly assign 'extra' ones to someone, it could throw the whole system out of balance.

I too was wondering about the "8/2" expiration statement. If you have an August use year, your unbanked points would have expired August 1, not 2nd. If they were banked points from your '06 use year, they are still in effect, but if they are banked from '05 or are unbanked '06 points, they are gone.

I'm sorry about your MIL. Re: your points, what is your Use Year? As others have said, there is no UY where your points would expire on 8/2.

Do you really mean that your points expired or that you missed your final banking deadline? I just thought it was interesting that you listed 8/2 which will be the final banking deadline for Dec UYs under the new banking rules taking effect in 2008. Since we're still under the old banking rules, if you have a Dec UY, then you have until Oct 31st to bank up to 25% of your total points, including any already banked earlier in your UY.

I don't blame you for being flakey, and you shouldn't beat yourself up over this. Your husband is probably just transfering his anger and grief to the lost points, as if they passed away too.
Hope it all works out.

So I spoke to someone at Member Services and he put in a request to have the points extended.

For the record...I had an August use year, so I'm not really sure what that meant...I never needed to bank points which is why the fact that we still had points left really surprised me.

Supposedly, I will get a letter next week from DVC confirming the extension (I guess it is a one-time thing when there are extenuating circumstances) but he didn't seem to think it would be a problem.
