I cannot afford to buy leather cleaner, but I need to clean my leather couch and other leather seating. The leather is getting 'dry'. Any suggestions?

I would hesitate to use the linseed oil (not that it doesn't work). I just think there are different moisturizing products available that don't have the smell of linseed oil. Possibly looking into a high-end car forum to see what they use on their leather seats or even a horse forum for what they use on saddles. They both have to see quite a bit of use/dirt and possibly sun damage. Just find something specific for leather, I would hesitate to use something that is "all inclusive" like armor-all.

Like what PP linked in her article, test on a small inconspicuous area to test first.

I just cleaned all the leather seats in my car with my Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It was amazing! So much dirt came off, they look a different color now! Then I rubbed in the armor all and was done. I would think you could do something similar with your couch.

I would not use armor all. Hubby has often told me that it will cause the sidewall of tires to crack. Something about drawing out the moisture. I've been with him for 24 yrs, in all that time we've never bought armor-all. I don't know if things have changed, gotten better but it's stuck with me, still haven't bought it. I don't think I would trust it on a leather couch. I would find something specific for leather.

I do agree, the magic erasers work wonder on getting stuff off. Hubby drives himself & his brother to work, the passenger side was filthy. I was able to clean it off without using chemicals. His brother is a body man at the dealership, all kinds of nasty on that seat. <shudder>

Look for leather cleaner/conditioner or you can find it in wipes in the auto isle at the store. I was told our leather couches should be cleaned with leather cleaner every 6 months to prevent dry out. Make sure it says conditioner and not just cleaner to help it not crack.

I love armour all to clean my car dashboard and have used it for years without it drying anything out. If I was told it would have dried it out I am sure I would be hesitant to use it too. I just love the shine but it only lasts a couple days anyway. I wouldn't use it on leather though.

I just washed my leather couches with Murphys Oil. It cleans very well when the couches need deep cleaning. For regular dusting lemon Pledge is good too.

Linseed oil is very flammable, I wouldn't use it on my couch.

I bought my set at Rooms to Go and they told us they will give us free leather cleaner for life..just to stop back in any showroom anytime and ask.

LOL, I haven't tried it though, I still have some of the original bottle they gave us when we bought the set in 2005! ;)

(guess that means maybe I should clean it, huh!):rotfl2:
