I've read every book by Danielle Steel that's in paperback-she's my favorite author. I've also gone through quite a few Nora Roberts books. OK, who else is good? Anyone ever read Fern Michaels? How are her books? DM recommended Victoria Holt, but her books are too historical, not current or something. Help-I need something new to read-gotta trip to WDW in a few weeks, so I need something to read in the airport and while I lie around the pool.

I'm reading "The Mulberry Tree" by Jude Deveraux and it's great! I have read all of Danielle Steel's books too. I just bought her latest, but won't start it until I finish "The Mulberry Tree".

LaVryle Spencer is my current fav romance writer.

I used to be a Danielle Steele fan, then I got hooked on mystery novels. But now and then I'll buy one, and I just finished "The Cottage" - that one was good.

Now I read:

Dean Koontz
Sue Grafton
Patricial Cornwell
Mary Higgins Clark
James Patterson

Just to name a few.

Maeve Binchy? Great Irish Storyteller, contemporary stories.

Rosamund Pilcher? Another great Storyteller. 2 of my favorites of hers are Winter Soltice and Coming Home

I have been reading books by Mary Daheim. She is a mystery writer. She writes to books with two different sets of main characters. One group is the bed and breakfast mysteries. The other group is the Alpine mysteries, I think. Joanee Pence is a pretty good mystery writer too.

Catherine Coulter writes a lot of historical ones, but she also has some contemporary ones.

Linda Lael Miller!!!!

I am currently trying to read every book she has ( I think there are over 100) I have read about 30 of them so far and I just love her style!

Some are historical which are my favourite, some are time travel but not hokey, and then a few are about vampires ( not my thing), and then some are contemporary.Try reading the Springwater series or the first one in the Port Hastings series, Banner Obrien thats one of my favourites :)

On a similar note, do you ever mourn the characters in a book when youre done reading it? I have been reading like crazy lately and when I finally finish with a book, Ive become so "invested" in it that I frelaly miss reading about the characters. Please tell me Im not alone...;)

I enjoy Fern Michaels too.

My newest favorite author is Jodi Picoult. She writes about really interesting topics but her characters are always real people.

If you haven't read the Nicholas Sparks books those are great. I am not a big fan of his more recent ones but Message in a Bottle and The Notebook are wonderful.

I am also a Nora Roberts fan.

I second binny on Linda Lael Miller! I love her books, primarily the contemporary and historical ones. Besides the series binny mentioned, I also loved the Primrose Creek series.

Tami Hoag
Susan Isaacs
Dean Koontz
John Saul
Anne Rice
Judy Blume

Janet Evanovich
Judith McNaught
Judith Michael

My newest favorite author is Jodi Picoult. She writes about really interesting topics but her characters are always real people.
I just finished 'Perfect Match' and started 'The Pact' and next month's book club choice is 'Picture Perfect':D

Maeve Binchy? Great Irish Storyteller, contemporary stories.
I would suggest 'Tara Road':D I really enjoyed it!
LaVryle Spencer is my current fav romance writer.
'Family Blessings' is one of my favorites! I liked 'Small Town Girl' too!

Current favs:

Carl Hiassen
Christopher Moore
Laurence Shames
Kinky Friedman
Thomas Dorsey
Bill Fitzhugh

Off-beat comedy / mystery / adventure stuff - Not a romance reader....

I feel the same way!! Which is why I've recently become addicted to authors who write series. Then when I finish a book I know I can find my favorite characters in the next volume. Makes it less painful to finish a good book. :)

I second the Janet Evanovich vote. I've never been into mysteries but she writes with so much humor (I mean laugh-out-loud funny!) that I have thoroughly enjoyed her Stephanie Plum novels. The first book in this series is One for the Money. I am anxiously awaiting the release of To the Nines.

I've heard good things about Sue Grafton's alphabet series too and I plan to check her out soon.

I'm also into vampire/romance novels. Yeah, I know - strange combination but I love it! I will now be checking into Linda Lael Miller. Thanks for mentioning her, binny. :)

My favorite authors in this genre are:

Laurell K Hamilton: the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. Excellent books! First in this series is Guilty Pleasures.

Christine Feehan: the Dark series. First book in this series is Dark Prince.

You’ve gotten some good suggestions on this thread, Simba’s Mom. Happy reading! :)

My Favs...

Mary Higgins-Clark
Nora Roberts
David Eddings (sword&sorcery)
John Saul

Have you ever tried "Chick Lit"? They are light, fluff, funny stuff. Like "Confessons of a Shopaholic" series by Sophie Kinsella, anything by Jane Green...or books in that genre. Entertaining and do not require a lot of thought. Perfect for vacations!;)

I will 3rd the Janet Evanovich recommendation. I read the whole series and I am dying for "To the Nines" to come out. I can read one of her books in a day. I really like series books a lot. Another favorite of mines is John Sanford. He writes the Prey series. That was my first series that I got hooked to.

Thanks so much for the ideas! Now I have a list of authors to check out next time I go to the library, and before my next trip to WDW.

I am 14 but i love Lurlene McDaniel i just got done with one of her books It's called Telling Christina Goodbye it is sad but really good now i am stanrting on another one of her books called Don't Die ,My Love.I tell ya she is really good.

I love Jane Austen! Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility.

I just finished "White Oleander" by Janet Fitch. If you've seen the movie -Michelle Pfeiffer IS that character! They couldn't have picked anyone better for the part.

Please try Elizabeth Adler books. She is a wonderful author.
Her writing style is similar to Barbara Taylor Bradford. Her first
book that I read was Fortune Is a Woman. It is a real page turner. You can't put it down!! All of her books are like this....
She makes for great summer reading!!
