I am need of some serious networking help :confused3

I am not at work, we have a small office with about 10 PCs and printers networked together with a central hub, no actual 'server'. My PC was fine yesterday. I came into work this morning and logged on, I waited the usual 5 minutes for my computer to finally boot up :surfweb: I noticed that AVG was trying to update but could not connect to the internet, no big deal so I rebooted the DSL modem figuring that would cure my problem, no dice :scared1:

Everyone else in the office can connect to the internet just fine, mine gives me the usual "page can not be displayed" error message when I try to open up IE

I can also see everyone elses PC's and use the networked printers. No one else can access my PC, it says they network drive is not found.

I have tried the windows help & support with no help, I also tried to IE connection wizard and it tells me that my PC can not ping the DNS server, probably because of a firewall. I have turned off every firewall I can find, still no luck.

I have also tried a system restore but it says it can not be completed because there have been no changes to the computer.

I am running XP Pro if that helps.

Please HELP HELP HELP :flower3: :worship: :guilty: :scared:

I am usually pretty computer literate but this is really stumping me :sad1: :sad1:

Have you checked ALL the physical connections? Check every single wire and plug that comes into or goes out of your computer, check every cable, check where your keyboard connects to your CPU, check EVERYTHING.

Other than that I have no idea.

agnes!

I've unplugged, reseated everything I can come up with. :confused3

Are all the office PCs plugged into the same modem? If not, like maybe your PC has a different box, can you switch boxes with another PC? And if everyone is plugged into the same modem, could it be the connections between your PC & the network?

Other than that, I'm really stumped this time.

We are all connected to one hub. The hub is connected to the DSL router.

I tried different ports on the router just for kicks, nuttin.

It seems like some sort of firewall issue but I have no idea why, I turned off the windows firewall and I don't think my AVG has a firewall, at least not one that I can find :confused3

If possible, take your PC to someone else's (working) station.
Plug yours into their connections (keeping track of all the cables :scared1: ). If yours then works, it's the connections.
If it DOESN'T, it's the PC.

agnes!

Also upplug all your connections, clean off all your connections, and then plug in again and see if that helps.

Good luck :pixie:

Keep those ideas coming!

I now know for sure it's not the cabling, my laptop is fine on that cable. It has to be something within my PC...

:confused3
