HELP - I need good, inexpensive work shoes!

I work in a pharmacy - on my feet for 8+ hours straight 5 days a week on a pretty unforgiving surface (we have a couple of anti-stress mats, but I don't stand on one most of the time).

I have 2 pairs of Skechers, heavier lug kind of shoes - one pair is brown with dark brown stripes the other is black with dark brown stripes. I've had both pairs for a couple of years, but have been wearing them for work exclusively since January.

My problem is that now I'm starting to have some pain in my left heel (bottom of my foot). I hadn't had this for awhile, but it's re-started in the past month or so. I bought some insoles and it helps a bit, but I think I need a new pair of shoes.

I'm happy with my Skechers, but the styles have changed a lot since I bought these pairs (got them at a Skechers outlet awhile back) and I need something that is closed toe/closed heel (required), black or brown, and with super good support - oh yeah, and I really need them to be $50 or less.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Keen or Merrell brands - they are comfy and have some cute styles, especially Keen. I have the Keen Calistoga shoe for a differrent style and It's wonderful! You'll have to watch for a sale, so check Shoebuy, 6pm or Sierra Trading Post for a discount. (Shoebuy often has a 20% coupon.)

If you just want comfort - SAS brand

If you have an outlet nearby try the Cole Hahn's with the Nike air. I have found them at TJ MaXX as well.

Not sure you can get Walking Cradles for $50 or less, but they are very comfortable. Run a little bit small, though, so size up.

Can you wear sneakers while there? My ASICS have been a lifesaver.

A lot of people swear by Nursemates, but I didnt care for them. You have to break them in, which drove me nuts. If you are on your feet all day, it is worth it to invest in a good comfortable pair of shoes/sneaks!

Edit-must have been tired last night when I typed this, since I typed sketchers where I meant to say Asics! I have never owned a pair of Sketchers. lol

Please do yourself a favor and spend the money on a GOOD pair of shoes. It sounds like you have the beginnings of plantar faciatius (sp?). I have battled it and believe me you don't want to. There were some mornings I woke up unshure if I could make it to the shower. I wear new balance and mephisto evclusively. I have very high arches and these are what work for me. I pay $100 or more for a pair of shoes, but it is that or live with constant pain. I say it is worth it. Some others I know who have it like merrells or keens. It depends on your foot shape. I am a teacher and spend 8+ hours a day on concrete floors.

I hope your heel problem isn't a heel spur. I have those and they are PAINFUL.

For shoes... if you have a Bass Shoes outlet near you, they're really great. Also Aerosoles are very comfortable as are the Dr. Scholls shoes.

New Balance black sneakers - I work in a building that has concrete floors and is 1/4 mile long. Plus have to stand in place for long periods. New Balance is amazing, may be a little over the $50 - but They do have outlets.

I LOVE my New Balance! I buy mine at Fred Meyers when they have their additional 50% off clearance prices. I have found them at TJ Max and Ross as well. .. but if I really needed them, I would pay full price. I have high arches and a wide foot, but narrow heels?? They are the best FOR ME. Find out what kind of shoe works for you. . .maybe even go to one of those special "runners" stores. . .they will check your gait and all and be able to tell you what you need. BTW. . .you said your Sketchers are fairly old. . .I train strong woman. .. lots of lifting and cardio. . .shoes really only last about 3-4 months before they are "blown." I know because when I'm on my feet a lot. . .and sometimes walking 7 miles a day for cardio. . .I start to get shin splints when it's time for new shoes. It does sound like you are developing plantars. . .you really don't want to do that. Spend the little bit of extra money now and then see if you can whittle down the price. It's like going to Nordstroms to get fitted for a good bra. . .and buying an expensive one. . .then trying to find a similar one at a cheaper price. It's the same with make-up. Splurge once and then maybe try to cut corners once you know what really works for you.

Could you wear Professional Crocs? Crocs are super comfy for being on your feet all day.

I also LOVE my crocs. I wait tables for sometimes 12 hours at a time and they are the only reason I can stay on my feet for so long.
I have the Bistro edition because they are non-slip but they have other styles that are under your budget. I bought mine at Journeys in the mall if you dont feel like ordering them online. They do take a couple days to form to your foot, but once they do they are like walking on air!:goodvibes HTH!
