We are leaving for Disneyworld in 5 days and I just pulled out a load of the kids laundry to pack and almost the whole load is covered in crayon. Help! Is there any way to get it out? It's on every pair of DS's pants. I don't want to have to buy him all new pants right before we leave. :scared1:

Rub the stains with Lestoil and wash. Re-check before drying and repeat as necessary. Good luck!

Edited to add: May remove some color from jeans/dark pants.

Try Oxiclean- it works on just about everything I don't see why not crayon. I have heard also vinegar or WD40(but I would be leary to try that one- that would be last resort.)
Good luck.

When ds had a small amount on a shirt I was able to iron on the reverse- had a white rag between shirt and ironing board- it did transfer the crayon from the shirt to the rag. - but that was one item.

i did this with a bright magenta crayon -- what a nightmare! I rewashed the clothes with a capful of Tide, a cup of Borax and a cup of Shout liquid right out of the spray bottle on HOT. It worked like a charm. If you have crayon on your dryer drum try using Dawn Power Dissolver for dishes. It worked like magic -- took no elbow grease at all!

:sad2: ugh. I've done that. It's a real mess.. I'm sorry it happened to you too. If there is a way to get it out, I never found it. Orange crayon+ Load of lights colors= ruined. I do want to caution you to do everything in your power to clean out the dryer and the lint trap until every trace of it is gone. The tiniest little bit will ruin future loads too.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I'm gonna send DH to the store to pick up some of these supplies. Here's hoping for the best!

This happened to me about a year ago. The week before school started. I washed a load of their new school clothing and someone had a crayon in their pocket. Washed and dried....

Simple Green worked for me. Took a lot of elbow grease and several washings though....

You can try getting the bulk of it off by covering them with a brown paper bag and then spot ironing.

+1

Took 2 washings, managed to save all but one shirt. Then I washed & dried a load of old towels twice to make sure all the bits were gone out of the washer and dryer.

(Works only with some brands of crayons)

Before doing any of the above steps, put the clothing in the freezer for a few hours and then crinkle the fabric to get most of the crayon wax to flake off.

This should greatly reduce the quantity of cleaning fluid, absorbent towels, etc. needed to finish the job.

I haven't tried myself but I have heard that Goo-Gone will get crayon out of clothes. I know it worked on tree sap that had been washed and dried into my clothes for over a year :thumbsup2

I've had luck with Carbona for ink and crayon. I wash able to save several pairs of khakis pants with red crayon on them Good luck!

Happend to us a couple years ago.

What worked for us:

In washer:

Hot water
Tide
Borax
A small squirt of Dawn
A 1/2 cup of Shout

Run several times, no drying between loads, until its out.

We salvaged most everythiing.

I used a magic eraser to clean my dryer.

And, since DH was the culprit for the crayon in his pocket (it was actually post Disney trip from one of the restaurants), he got a good reaming from me :) (but mostly because in the load was my then 3 year old's favorite dress (onlything she wanted to wear dress).

I used a citrus based cleaner from Home Depot - its usually stocked right next to the goo gone, took a couple of washings, but I too did not want to buy my son a whole new school uniform wardrobe, since we had just bought them 4 weeks earlier!

OP, here. Sorry for taking so long to get back with you all and let you know how my clothes faired. I took a little bit of everyones advice and soaked and then washed the clothes with a concoction of borax, zout, dish soap, oxiclean, vinegar, color safe bleach, and detergent. I'm happy to report that after two soaking/washings most of the crayon came out. There was only one shirt that I couldn't get clean and it was a junky tshirt of my sons so I wasn't too worried about it. So thank you all for your advice. No quick trip to the store needed to purchase new pants before our trip!

Mixing all of those at once doesn't sound like a great idea... That is a lot of chemicals to be mixing at once.

If you don't have anything to contribute to getting crayon out of clothes why are you on this thread? There is no need to scold me. I took tried and true mixtures from this and other websites before I did anything.
