*HELP* I have a major sunburn, what can I do????

Noxemia was invented to treat sunburn. It is cooling and will prevent bilisters from forming.

I know from personal experience

You beat me to it! :)

IMO, nothing is more soothing than Noxemia (or the generic in our household).

Noxema does feel wonderful ona sunburn (almost too cold) but I have read from RNs that Noxema (the origional) is oil based and will intensify the burn. :confused3

It's the camphor and menthol in Noxzema that makes it feel good, but the oils in it are not really the best thing when the burn is acute.

A cool bath with white vinegar added to the water can help. Use a quart in a tub of water, or even dab it on straight in the worst areas. It helps take down the inflammation.

My sister got a bad burn as a teenager and our doctor told my mom to wet down some tea bags and put them on the burned areas. Apparently the tanin in tea helps reduce inflammation.

I have used things like Solarcaine in the past, and it works well.

I second the poster who said everyone should wear sunscreen! I lost my brother-in-law to melanoma (he was 26 when he died) and also had a cousin who got melanoma at age 22 (luckily, they caught it early and she survived). Please, everyone, wear sunscreen!!

Dissolve 4 asprine in a cup or so of hot tap water, then add to a cool bath and swish around and soak for a while. The asprine goes directly into the sunburnt pores and helps it heal and de-swell (haha made up words :goodvibes ) Also, keep aloe in the fridge and after you put it on, point a fan at your burn to keep the aloe chilled. On sticky days, a light dust of baby powder also seems to make my burns feel better, I don't know if it's because I'm weird or not though. :teeth:

My DSisIL got a REALLY bad sun burn after falling asleep in the sun. She wasn't able to wear any clothes because everything hurt so bad.

I had heard that you should use Vitamin D milk. I told her. She tried it and the next day she was almost normal. The milk cools the skin but the vitamin D helps the skin mosturize. You will smell bad (like curdled milk) :sad2: but I saw how fast it worked. Just use a washcloth to apply it. :cheer2:

Apply Aloe Vera Gel or crush up an advil or tylenol and apply to the area ( I heard this is supposed to work for the pain) :confused3

A little baby powder sprinkled between your sheets will help you sleep better when you have a sunburn. It reduces the friction between the sheets and your sunburned skin. I hope you feel better soon!
