Okay - now I am really freaking out - it is bad enough that BTMRR is going to be closed, but now I understand that TOT will also be down Sept 17-21 and there is also talk of a RNRC rehab. I know Disney has to do rehab sometime - but three major attractions all in the same month. Absolutely unacceptable. I think I am going to try to change my ressie, ir cancel altogether. Does anyone think that calling WDTC will help? I cannot believe they would sell all these FTP and then close two or three of the best attractions. What would you do?

Not the Tower of Tower!!! They just changed the dropping sequences in the beginning of the year and I was looking forward to trying it out a few time!
.
I hope that they do not have TOT and RNR closed at the same time, that is two of the biggest attractions. It certainly would not make a lot of sense.

By the way www.mgmstudios.org is saying that TOT is to be closed at least until the end of September perhaps even into October. If that is the case I will have to wait until next year to try the new sequences.

If by calling Disney you mean, will they change, I would say no. If they have it scheduled, it is. I would just go and enjoy the hundreds of other things we all love WDW for and get ready for a future trip, when those will be open, and something else will be closed.

Now I am freaking out about rehabs too!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe BTMRR will be closed for our Oct trip!!!!
AND possibly TOT!!!!!!!

I can't believe that they would have my DD 2 most favorite rides closed while we are there!!!!

We already have our flights paid for. And purchased our tickets for MNSSHP!!! Otherwise we would absolutely change our dates!!!

There is never a good time for a rehab--ever. However, there are a few months when it is harmful to the least amount of guests and one of those months is September. The trade off for guests going during that time is the fact that it's not as busy and you are in a more relaxed frame of mind.

Some rehabs are nothing more than some painting and annual repair and upkeep. However, others are safety related and must be done in a timely matter. I would rather have 3 attractions closed for rehab than me or a loved one closed forever.

If your vacations to WDW are centered around 2,3,4 or 5 attractions, I urge you to expand your horizons. WDW has so much to offer. I figure you folks already know that. I don't think I would even care if they closed one theme park entirely. I believe I am fortunate to have the opportunity to go as often as I have.

As far as RnRC and TOT down at the same time---probably not.

Just my .02

What bothers me is the fact that they are rehabing major attractions during the time that they offered FTP to get people to the parks.

Why close your major rides during September and October in which FTP was offered?

I understand that rides have to be updated. It just seems like bad timing.

My two cents on this issue is that yes they are offering FTP to get people into the parks because they ALWAYS want more people in the parks. There are usually discounts all year round (except for the busier holiday season) to try to get more people to stay at the resorts and go to the parks. However, even with FTP drawing in a few more people September is still one of the slowest periods at WDW and therefore is likely to be the best time for routine rehabs and updates because it will effect the fewest number of people. When should they do the rehabs? When they are so busy that they are not offering discounts - just when they have the largest # of people effected?

I know first hand how disappointing it can be to see your favorite ride down while you are there but there is so much at WDW to enjoy. By going during the off-season you will have a much easier time seeing everything else.

In the grand scheme of things I can't imagine that having 2-3 major attractions closed is really going to ruin someone's entire vacation. You can call and complain or even call to cancel but odds are that you are not going to make a difference in the rehab schedule. I say be a little disappointed for a few hours and then get back to planning and enjoying your trip. :)

Becka,

I do agree with you, I'm just a little disappointed thats all. It just seems that all you read is that they are taking another major attraction down this fall. However, I did read that TOT will still run one side of the attraction during the rehab.

I thought maybe with the success of FTP that September/October would be busier than the norm.

Just being at Disney is fun for me. Just disappointed for any first timers.

Sorry you took it so personal.

I didn't take it personal. I just thought I would give my perspective on the timing of rehabs. I really wasn't trying to make anyone feel bad. I think perhaps Sep/Oct may be busier than the norm but it will probably still be slower than other times of the year. Just MHO.

The last paragraph of my post was really directed at the OP who was talking about cancelling a trip because of a few rehabs. I would hate to see someone give up an entire trip just because a ride or two was going to be down. I am not sure if there is ever a time when something is not down. Even during busier times they have some attractions that are open on a limited basis.

I understand how you feel. BTMRR would have been one of the coasters that I feel even my youger guys could have handled and I had JUST gotten up the nerve to try TOT! I know that we will still have a delightful trip, but we are a bit dipapointed.

Now if they would stop talking about SE!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it appears that both towers are closing for the rehab. There was a message thread on mgmstudios.org that originally stated it might be one tower and then the other, but it's since been revised to include comments from a CM indicating that the entire attraction will be down.

Sorry. But enjoy everything else that your trip has to offer. Some of us are still a year away from getting back.

What are the rehab dates for TOT?

From mgmstudios.org:

"The month of September will be a bad one for guests as the Tower of Terror will be closed starting September 17, and will be closed through the rest of the month and possibly into October. The reason for the rehab is to get a whole new Tower console for the ride. "

:( Our trip is October 3-6. DS would not ride TOT on our last trip. He has agreed to give it a try next time. Oh well, I'll just have to plan another trip.:smooth:

DH and I were planning to do a quick trip without the kids early Oct for the sole purpose of doing the rides the kids don't always want to do. This could put a real wrench in those plans :( . We were there in May with the kids, and will be back with them in Nov, so this Oct. timeframe was good with our SP's. Looks like it may not be good for our objective though.

are these rehab announcements coming from "official" sources? I can't see anything on the disney site that speaks to any of these refurbs. I'll JUST squeak into ToT, if that 9/17 date is accurate. Do any of you well-connected DISers have the date that BTMRR is scheduled to go down?
Thanks in advance,
Ju

Did someone mention rehab on RnRC? Where is that info posted at? I agree, all these big attractions closing witin a month of each other would be a bummer!

I can understand people being upset if they only get to WDW once a year or maybe once every 5 years. For some this trip may be the only one planned for a long time. Of course they will want to do the big rides! It looks like www.mgmstudios.org is saying the Animation Tour will be down for the whole month of September as well. CM's in Fronterland are saying the end of August till the end of November for Big Thunder Mountain.

I'm flooding my keyboard with tears! And I'll have to be the one to break the news to the rest of the family. Hope they don't shoot the messenger or I'll be needing more than a kleenex.

WOW!! Looks like September is not a good month for MGM Studios (ToT and Animation Tour). Good thing I haven't bought park hoppers yet for my trip at the end of September. My original plan was NOT to do the Disney parks this year, just Universal and Sea World and everyday I hear of another attraction going into rehab in September, looks like this would be a good year to skip the Disney parks.

 :(
