Ok....I need the help of my Disney information crew! LOL. This is our second Disney cruise but on the first one, I spent a lot of the cruise listening to my husband whine about the MDR menus. He is NOT a fancy guy and is not even a little adventurous when it comes to food. Almost to the point of being juvenile. (EX. If he doesn't understand the verbiage being used to describe an item on the menu, he won't even trust ME to explain to him on his level what things mean! LOL) So....that being said....he is going to have to be with us in the MDR, but truly would prefer foods that they have up on the pool deck (burgers, brats, pizza). I know he can eat of the kids menus, but sometimes he doesn't want the options they have either. Does anyone know if you can come into the MDR and ask for a burger or a brat and fries and get it. What about super simple desserts? My hubby is a chocolate chip cookie or simple, everyday chocolate cake kind of guy. Any chance of procuring those things for the MDRs? Thanks in advance for you advise. He is a wonderful man, and I love him dearly, but he is more like a kid than my kids when it comes to food and fine dining.

While I'm unsure about the "just a burger (or brats)" option, I'm fairly certain, as long as you give your server a head's up, that cookies will be available for him.

There's almost always a burger selection on the kid's menu. Or pizza.

Also, the Lighter Fare menu (basic chicken, steak, or fish) with veggies is on all the menus.

Will he eat the steaks or chicken they offer nightly minus the sauces?

My grandson loves steak but not the sauces or sides, I just ask our server for the meat minus the sauce and some fries or mac and cheese. The don't have issue with it.
They aim to please.

Maybe on one night, but he is not one that would be happy eating steak every night, and he doesn't like chicken unless it is breaded and on a sandwich. LOL

What does he eat on a daily basis for dinner? My suggestion would be to speak to the head waiter on your first night and see what might be able to be done. On our second cruise our head waiter noticed our kids not eating any of the bread service and he inquired why, we told him they just like plain white dinner rolls, he brought some to us about 30 minutes later and they were on the table when we arrived for the rest of the cruise.

He is the type to eat very simple pub-like food. Burgers, Brats, Fish and Chips, Breaded Chicken Sandwiches, steak with mashed potatoes (which I know he can get), sausage pizza (always hard to find on the ship anywhere but Palo), Philly cheesesteaks with fries. Turkey with stuffing and gravy would be ok. You see, I think I could get him to eat things that are on the menus, if they were worded differently. This is what I mean about juvenile. If HE does not know what it means, he is not interested in being told. (I personally would love for him to see a shrink for that issue) LOL

Why not print the menus, and then find pictures online and show him what each dish looks like in advance so he'll know what to order? Highlight the names of the dishes that he would enjoy and bring copies with you in each MDR?

Yeah my girlfriend is very picky as well, she ended up getting mostly steaks from the MDR. And they are pretty obliging. If you give them a heads up on his preferences they will probably be able to swing it.

Good idea. There are a lot of pictures of food on here - even a thread or two. Print off each MDR entree or whatever and just make a picture menu for him with just the name of the dish.

I would put together a list of meals that your husband likes, as above, and give it to your servers the first night...covering all nights of your cruise. If they can accommodate, then let each meal be a surprise, with no menu for him to view. After 8 DCL cruises, I find the servers, hosts, officers can be truly magical and love a challenge.

Have you thought about just refusing to engage in conversations about food with him? He's a grownup, so if it were me, I'd just not even talk about it. He can order his own food, and if he starts a complaint, I'd just refuse to respond other than to say, "Why don't you talk to the waiter about your order," or something like that. After one time of that, my response would be, "Let's talk about something other than food." I figure it's his issue, so he should deal with it and not bring you down. After one or two "I don't want to talk about it," I would honestly leave the table rather than sit there and listen to complaints. He's a grown man. You are not responsible for his dietary preferences.

All that being said, there's no reason they won't be able to handle finding him simple food. All he has to do is ask for what he wants. If he really doesn't think there will be something he would like, perhaps he could eat on deck in the late afternoon and have something he enjoys, and then just come to the dining room to have a beer and enjoy everyone's company. There are many ways for him to satisfy his needs. Don't worry!

Seriously, I cannot imagine putting up with another adult that will not even listen to an explanation of what the food is and then constantly complains about it. Yikes (and certainly not LOL). I have picky friends, but they can always find something on these types of menus.

On our last cruise, one of the adults at our table got a Mickey bar for dessert every night.

Nothing wrong with a Mickey Bar! It's my go-to option if there is either no GF option on menu or I'm flat-out sick of mousse (what the GF option often is).

Agree, I've become a picky eater since some illness, that's my problem, not my wife's, kids, waiter, cooks or people sitting around. If I can't find something I like, stay home! there is always something I can eat, dessert, sandwichs, after all, I didn't get this heavy by breathing air

Wow...with all due respect friends, I am ok with people helping out and giving their opinions on how something could be dealt with in a constructive manner, but seriously....attacking my husband's character because YOU couldn't handle one of the few "irritating" habits that he has??? I don't remember asking for that. I have been a member of the DISboards for a long time and I have often seen unkind comments and I always try to put a positive spin on things. I am more than a little disappointed in some of the replies I have gotten. Maybe some of you would just "ignore him" or "leave him behind" but that is the joy of him NOT being your husband of 16 years. Thanks again to those who actually gave me a reply I can do something with instead of criticizing my husband, which is my place and not yours.

I'm not sure if it's much help but I did get sausage pizza one day from Pinocchio's on deck this June (mainly the choice was ham & pineapple and pepperoni) and one day BBQ chicken which was yummy

Thank you so much! That is helpful. At least he will know there is a possibility. LOL
