Please give me pointers on how to help my second grader with telling time...She is a bright kid who usually picks up on everything very quickly but this time thing is making us nuts! We have many "hand" clocks in the house so she is use to seeing it.
She understands 5,10 15 .....but just can't bring it together....any pointers? I did speak with the teacher but she really didn't give me any ideas or help...just said they would work on it more in school and she would give her added help..This is only the second week with this unit...

What I did was take a paper plate and made a clock out of that. I made the hands from another plate and attached them with the tack that you put through and then spread the backs and it stays. I labled the clock with the 1,2,3... and also with the 5, 10,15,20... You just have to keep praticing with it.

you take a big faced clock and tape the numbers 1-59 all around the outside (where they belong of course) and tell your daughter to look at the little hand and tell her that it reads the number that it is closest to - if between 4 and 5 is it closer to the 4 or 5.... and the big hand reads the numbers around the outside... my second grader was also having a tough time even though she picks everything else up real quick and with this she got it in 2 days and said "NOW I understand"

good luck
and as with everything sooner or later they get it...you just never know what is going to trigger it for them!!!

I did that today...made a clock...but I never realized how hard telling time was...UGH!
