the dreaded clothes shopping with a teenager is a nightmare, made even worse when they don't fit the 'normal size' for a child of their age. So can anyone else with a tall skinny child recommend places to shop, for clothes that semi-fit!!! He is 170cms tall, with a 62cm (24 1/2" waist) and an inside leg of 76cm (30"). So you see my dilema - we normally find trousers long enough and then let go of them and they are around his ankles. So any recommendations of particular shops to visit would certainly be much appreciated. Thanxs

what a nightmare, I can somewhat relate as our son has always been very tall and slim until recently when he's matured a bit. We used to have to shop around, I found the likes of top man, next, etc could all offer something which would fit but unfortunately came with a bit of a heavier price tag. Our problem is now shoes, he's in a size 14 and we really struggle to find something 'young' which he'd wear. Good luck with your shopping trip

Our DNephew (age14) is very tall for his age and his Mum gets lots of his stuff in Next they do lots of longer length trousers and things with adjustable waists for a better fit. They have special labels on them you can look out for it's a black circle with a white A in the middle and they do a range of different fits too from slouch to skinny. The other option is go up a size and get the adjustable waists so they fit better. This is just one option there's bound to be more shops which will do something similar.

Thanks for the ideas - we are taking a tape measure with us so that hopefully we only try on those that are a possible and he doesn't get too disheartened by keep trying on clothes that don't fit.

Tillybud - we have the same problem with our eldest son he is 6' 7"and also takes a size 14, but has a really narrow foot, alot of the shoes that we come accross are slip ons which are no good at all for him. We got his school shoes in Florida last summer in the hush puppy outlet, and bought 2/3 pairs of trainers and was so excited to get a pair of converse for $10 at the outlet at Lake Buena Vista, I am not looking forward to if he wants new shoes.

id second next there stuff had ajustable waists, also m and s do some stuff that fits my son well.

wow, $10 for a pair of Converse is great. It's a nightmare that our retailers don't seem to cater for younger people with adult size feet (or even longer legs for that matter !!) I hope you manage to get your younger son sorted out on his shopping trip :goodvibes

My DD is a similar build - tall and slim, and I find Gap slim fit jeans are perfect for her and still feature an adjustable waist. I don't know what their boys' clothes are like but they might be worth a look.

Well it was a tiring day - lots of shops visited, but thanks to the tape measure did not have to try on too many that didn't fit, Next trousers were on the whole 6 - 7" too big around the waist and did not find any 15/16yr with adjustable waist, but to cut a long story short managed to get 2 nice pairs of jeans 1 indigo and 1 black in TK maxx, and a couple of *********** t-shirts and belt that did not have holes so you adjusted it to fit - perfect. Did try a couple of pairs on wiith adjustable waist but unfortunatly some were pulled in so much they looked awful around the bum!!! Anyway thank goodness its all over for a little while. Thanks for all the help.
