Howdy, and HELP. 1 st. Me (39), and my son(12), will be at wdw during the time they are having a pin trading night (may 23). Only started trading pins back in Oct, 2007 and this will be our first trip back. Is this something that is really enjoyable and should we make it a point not to miss it?
2nd. There are some pins we would like to add to our collection that only the cast members have, is it true that we need to be at the park at open to be able to trade for these pins, scalpers snatching everything in sight? If so is there another time of day that the cast members reload for the guests?

THANKS !!!!!! for any advise.

#1. Imagine, if you will, a ballroom with lots of sight and sound, filled with hundreds of people all with pin bags trading these tiny pieces of metal without rhyme or reason. It can be enjoyable in many respects.
a. You get to see lots of pins that you have never seen.
b. You just might find a pin that you can't live without if you have one
they can't live without.
c. Just beware, there are people who trade fairly and there are those
who don't (will take advantage of you).
d. I do it everytime I'm in WDW on a weekend that they have this and
have found things I didn't expect to find. So I know if I was in FL, I'd
be going.

#2 I presume you mean lanyard pins, aka Hidden Mickey pins, not CM pins.
What you said used to be true, but I don't think it's true any more. These pins seem to be more plentiful than in prior years. But it may depend upon the day and location. Not sure this helps. Just look at every CMs lanyard throughout the day. CMs are coming on stage at various times of the day.

thanks for the info. Yes the lanyard pins, aka Hidden Mickey pins are the ones I am talking about.

BTW, they have now started selling mystery packs of some of the Hidden Mickey series. 2 pins for $10. Check Dizpins this week for which ones.

I love pin trading nights- and I think anyone can enjoy them but you need to know before ya go what to expect or else it can be very overwhelming and frustrating...

1) not all pins are created equal nor are the people trading them equal. You will prob hear no thanks more often at first than sure but dont be disapointed- if all the pins were easy to get we'd all have complete collections... Its a hobby that is learned in time over what is fair and what values pins have etc.

2) Lanyard pins are financially worthless- which i mean to be- Lanyard pins while fun to collect, VERY few become hard to find and/or worth more than your average open edition pin. Dont be suckered into trading a limited edition or higher pin (jumbo/set etc) for most of the lanyard pins. ( I say most because there are rare examples of lanyard pins staying scarce so their values are higher but most of those I have not seen at PTN) If you find one you want/need and the trader insists its worth is higher than a basic rack (6.95) pin I would go onto the next trader... Worse comes to worse ya can finish your set once home either via trading or buying (where prices have stayed rather low (2-4 dollars) on lanyard pins lately on the bay) Ive been on the lookout for a few lanyard pins for friends and had people try to convince me that it was worth a 13 dollar pin and I later found that pin on several CMs the next day or so..

3) Have fun! Ill be at PTN on the 23rd so if ya see someone looking for Tarzan and wilderness pins- youve prob found me :)
