We have a smallish ornamental man-made pond in our front yard and it has 2 water moccasins living in it. Anyone know how to get rid of them?

Buy a peacock! They love to eat those guys, and look nice too.

Animal control said "we don't do that", the exterminator that advertised snake removal in the yellow pages said "uh, not that kind" and my neighbors have roaming dogs that would probably eat the peacock. Plus I dont really want one.

Since you can't use a gun in city limits (at least we can't here) I would put Animal Control on speed dial. If is were me, I would also by a bag a quick setting cement and get rid of the pond. I am not a fan of the snake.:scared1:

Well, she does live in Texas, so taking a shotgun to 'em might be okay in her neck of the woods! If you can't shoot within city limits, how about a pellet gun. Honestly, if there's two of them, you can be sure within a given amount of time, there will be more. I'd also have to wonder if you could put a goodly dose of bleach in there or something that might make it uninhabitable for them.

Snakes.... bllleeeechhh!

Yikes:scared1:Sell the house and move..................

There is the "Snake Farm" in New Braunfels, TX. They had just about every kind of snake imaginable, they might have some suggestions. Also, have you tried calling a local zoo, University or veterinarian?

Get some black snakes. They will kill them. That's the primary reason most people will allow black snakes to live on their property, even though they're not fans of snakes.

Another vote for move. I wouldn't be able to sleep. :scared1:

Shoot one of these at them:

Then run like hell!

I have unwanted snakes in my pond as well. As far as I can determine, they are great northern water snakes. I visited a pond farm for advice. They said the best way is to pester the snake into leaving. I have a 13 year old son, so pestering something is no problem.

At various times he would go out with a fishing pole and put something on the hook and just keep bumping the head when it would surface. Eventually the crazy snake bit at the object and darned if the kid didn't catch a snake with a fishing pole and a piece of corn.

This just made me smile. I want a peacock but the neighbors would probably pitch a big one (or I'd be reading about it here on the CB).

Are the snakes causing a problem? Is live and let live out of the question?

Then what do you do with it?!?!?!? :scared:

Okay we just got home from the pond store and bought a trap. They did warn us, however, that if we catch and kill them to be extra careful because if one of them is a pregnant female, when we kill her (if we chop her up or chop off the head) the babies will come spewing out. Now, that's Texas!

Read above post. That pretty much sums it up. Except for the spewing babies. I don't think any babies spewed. I took 13 yo ds, the adventurer, away from the scene of the crime, however he was the one, when he caught it yelling, somebody bring me the hatchet, I caught a snake!
