We are staying at the Polynesian and are finally going to try the Ft. Wilderness Segway tour (the 8:30 am tour).

What is our best/most efficient option for getting to the tour? When I made the tour reservation, the cast member scared me a bit by saying that it was going to be a multi-step process.

What do you think? Monorail to the Contemporary, boat to Ft. Wilderness, internal bike to the bus barn?

Or should we just spring for a cab for the sake of efficiency? How far can a cab take us in Ft. Wilderness?

Any help would be appreciated. We've been to Ft. Wilderness only once for the Hoop de Doo Review - and that was nine years ago. So I know almost nothing about Ft. Wilderness and how to get around there.

Thank you! :)

Sounds good, another option is ferry from Poly to MK, then ferry from MK to FW.

I am not sure, but I am assuming the Segway tour begins in the Settlement. In that case, the ferry boat drops you off right there.

If it does start at the Outpost, you'd need to catch a bus from the Settlement to the Outpost, a 5 to 10 minute ride.

Because you need to be there early(before MK opens), your plan of monorail to CR and boat to FW will work perfectly. If the tour is still leaving from the old river country area you are all set, if it leaves from the bike barn you can walk(about 1/2 mile) or take the orange or yellow bus(tell the bus driver, they will help you not to get lost).

Take the boats. Segway tour starts in the area where they have the Mickey BBQ (old area of River Country.)

Resort monorail starts around 7am
CR>FW>WL>CR boat starts about 6:45am
FW>MK>FW boat starts 1/2 hour before park opens
GF>Poly>MK>GF boat starts 1/2 before park opens.

Depending on the opening time of MK, the monorail to CR may be your only choice.

Thanks for the replies so far, everybody!

What about the cab option? Does anyone know how far into Fort Wilderness I can take a cab? I mean, can we take a taxi all the way to the Bike Barn . . . or would we have to stop somewhere else and then take the internal FW bus to the Bike Barn?

Thanks again!

I've never tried it myself, but when I called FW about this once, I was told that only people staying at FW could drive beyond the front section of FW, and then only to their cabins or campsites. All other traffic is supposed to stop at the front section, and passengers supposed to walk or catch internal buses.

You are correct. You cannot take a cab all the way to where the Segway tour meets. You have to take an internal bus.

So then, what's my best route? Cab to FW and then internal bus to the Bike Barn . . . or monorail to Contemporary, boat to FW, internal bus to the Bike Barn?

I don't mind about the extra expense of a cab if it would save us time and/or aggravation. ;)

The quickest would be cab to Fort Wilderness, then Orange or Yellow Settlement bus to the Bike Barn.

If on Orange, get off at Loop 900

If on Yellow, get off at Loop 1500

The boat drops you off very near to where the Segway tour starts so no internal bus is necessary if you take the boat to FW.

See, I think part of the confusion is that there seem to have been two separate locations where the FW Segway tour is held - either close to the boat dock/Hoop dee Doo area or in the center of FW at the bike barn. :confused3

The cast member who made my tour reservation told me it was at the bike barn, but cast members have been wrong before. I know I've read more than one story from people who were told the wrong location at FW and then had to scramble to get to the right place.

we have taken a cab to HDDR and were driven all the way to Pioneer Hall... no internal bus required... not sure if that's still the case, it was 2006 i believe...

Even in 2006 your experience was more the exception than the rule, traffic inside the campground is limited to FW resort guests only.

As for where the tour leaves from I suggest you ask over on the camping board for the most accurate info. The golf cart rental has been moved from the bike barn, maybe that was to allow the segway tour to move.:confused3

I think we're leaning towards the cab option.

Does anybody in Ft. Wilderness know where a cab would drop us?

And a related question . . . we are planning to go directly from Ft. Wilderness to Hollywood Studios to link up with the rest of our family.

Any ideas on how to get from the Segway tour (presumably at the Ft. Wilderness bike barn area) to Hollywood Studios? How long should that take, on average? Sorry, I know almost nothing about Ft. Wilderness and its park transportation.

Thank you again to all who have replied! :goodvibes

A cab will drop you off at the Outpost, from there you will need to board yellow or orange bus toward Settlement, Clkelly already listed to loop numbers for you. To get to DHS after your tour, go back to the bus stop you were dropped off at and board the next bus to Outpost, get off at Outpost and wait for the DHS bus. FW internal transportation is usually frequent since the buses run in the same loop all day, so getting to/from the segway tour shoudl be about a 5 min ride(10-15 min max wait). Buses to/from parks are just the same at FW as every other Disney resort, it may be right there or you may wait 20min, the ride itself is probably 10-15 min if you don't have any traffic problems.

A cab will take you to the Outpost.

To get to the Bike Barn from the Outpost, take an Orange Settlement bus and get off at Loop 900 and walk behind the Meadow Trading Post and you will be at the Bike Barn.

To get to Studios after the Segway Tour, walk back to the Bus Stop in front of the Meadow Trading Post and take an Orange Outpost bus. When you get to the Outpost bus stop, get off the bus and wait on a Studios bus.

Thank you SO much! I really appreciate your help. Any rough estimate on how long it might take to get from the Bike Barn to the Studios? I'm sure it will depend on the wait to get on a bus . . . but, just approximately what do you think? I would like to give my family a rough time to meet us at the Studios. :)

And one more question, please. I assume the Ft. Wilderness internal bus will be running by 7:30 or 8 am, right? Probably a stupid question, but I just want to make sure. ;) Thanks again.
