I sent carrot peels down the disposal and it is clogged beyond the grinder but not to the elbow because the other sink drains. I tried plunging it. Can I use draino, etc. any suggestions before I call the plumber!

did you cover the other drain when you plunged? admitting to having not realized this the first time...

My DH, who is a newspaper editor not a plumber, can fix that in about 10 minutes. He takes apart the pipes next to the elbow, and getting the clog out is a cinch. He had to do it last weekend after I peeled two pounds of carrots for beef stew. :confused3 I've watched him, but I'm still not sure I could do it. He starts with a couple of old towels and a big bucket for the water to go in when he gets the pipe apart. Given that you're already planning to call a plumber, you might try it -- the worst thing that would happen would be that the plumber would have to put it back together.

Try pouring some boiling water down the drain. It may take a few times but it could soften up the gunk and send it down....

Be careful about plunging.....I had this problem a few months ago and made the mistake of plunging the drain that the disposer is attached to. I think I plunged too hard because the disposer fell off!:rotfl:

I'm with tar heel. If you can tell where the clog is, I'd take apart the pipe and clear it out.
