Okay, back at the beginning of the year, i was totally motivated and signed up for the half next january. I am totally in, but I really need to get to training. Please send any advice, encouragement, or training plans my way. I am planning to walk and am about half finished with "Marathoning for Mortals". My sister is in it with me. We are both determined to do it but really need to get going. HELP!

Well you have come to the right place!!!! WELCOME from a fellow walker!!!!

You will get all of that here, encouragement, advice, and a kick in the pants when needed. This is a great knowledgeable group of people so any specific questions you have ask away.

You picked a great event for your first 1/2. Disney events are alot of fun and team spirit.

:welcome:

That's exactly what I did when I first signed up to walk the half back in 2007. I bought the MfM book and started at the beginning 'cause I didn't know any other way to train for a half. You are definitely on the right track! Please join in on any of the threads here. Post on the weekly thread to introduce yourself to the whole group, so we can all meet you. Many people are on friendly teams where it's a smaller group environment. If you are interested in joining one, just let us know and Windwalker Dave will get you assigned.

Right now, you are building a good base..getting your body used to walking 3 days a week. Please do not neglect the crosstraining on 2 days OR the rest days!! Don't push for speed, just get out there and walk. It's amazing how your speed will increase just from walking on these training days! I started out at a 18-19 minute pace and got to 14:30 by doing nothing special. Racey Tracey is a race walker (special technique and form), as is Windwalker Dave, and they can blast it away!

I would suggest that you aim for a 15 minute pace..even though the requirement is a 16 minute pace. The first two miles will be VERY congested and difficult to get into your usual pace. Then there are all of those characters that you'll want pictures of!!

Looking forward to watching your progress!! :goodvibes Anne

Welcome fellow walker, you can do this. Walking is a wonderful sport and much easier on your body.

Congratulations on becoming part of the WISH Team experience. You will love this and definitely you can do this.

I follow the Bingham program and love that there are several choices offered in his book. Keep with that and you will definitely find success.

Join in on the weekly thread to let us know how your training is going. It's a great place to get to know the rest of the team.
