Hi guys,
I spent a good time searching the forum last night... could never really find the answer to my question. I'm sure some of you pros can help. We are getting ready to book at FW, but cannot decide between preferred or premium. I would ideally like a nice shady spot that is also big and roomy and easy to back into... does this kind of site exist??? Close to the marina would be nice but not a neccessity since we will probably rent a cart.
Any help on preferred or premium and even specific loops would help me soo much.
THANKS!!!!!

The 800 and 900 loops are pretty shady. Both loops are premium. 800 has the largest sites IMO.

Where's the link to that amazing Google Earth map Shan-man did recently? I thought I had it bookmarked, but now I can't find it.

disneymom04, if someone posts it, check it out -- you can virtually see most of the sites.

EDITED because of DUH moment...disneymom04, it's on a sticky right at the top of these forums. Go see!

stacktester, I promise I'm not really just following you around DISboards -- this is the second post I've made that's popped up right on your heels! :rotfl:

If you want a site that's easy to back into you may want to book Premium. They have extra concrete, including being a bit wider at the front so they are usually easier to get into. The Premium loops closest to the marina are 400, 700 and 500. If you have a dog and also want to be close to the dog park, 500 is right across from it. If being close to the comfort station/laundry room is important, 400 or 500 would be good; 700 does not have its own CS and you would have to cross the road to get to one.

If you decide you don't mind being a bit further from the marina, I'd go with 800 or 900 as stated above by stacktester.

Thank you all so much... just the information I needed. Last time we were at the Fort they put us in the 200 loop I think...camper got a couple of scrapes while backing in... don't want to start our vacation out like that again.
Thanks again!!!!

we will be first timers too end of October....had originally wanted to go with loop 1400 to be near pool and Meadows, but afraid of being "too close" if YKWIM.....

we too would like a nice wide spot so we can spread out and also were going to request that grandparents, in their own trailer, be next to us.....

any suggestions ?

what site class did you book - preferred, premium, full?

It sounds as though some think the prefered sites are bigger than the premium? We just got our first TT and DH isn't too good in the "backing in" department.

There are definitely some decent sized Preferred sites - we've stayed in a few. But the 3 preferred loops are also some of the older ones (100-300) and they tend to be a little tight to get into with a bigger rig - in some cases just because of the trees and crazy angles of the sites off the road.

After the big "Premium Overhaul" a couple of years ago, they paved over the most (all?) of the sand pads in the premiums and also made them easier to get into.

Preferred still have sand pads - which if you're bringing an extra tent/screen room, etc., is nice because it give you something to put some stakes into.

we have a "premium" site and had requested loop 1400.....

so Premium sites are "full" hookups right? with electric, sewer and water?

The premium sites have it all...w/s/e/cable. We're working on convincing Fort management to pipe in the AYCD beer tap.

Yes please! :thumbsup2

Actually full, preferred and premium all have water/electric/sewer/cable.

You might also want to consider a full hookup site. They are farther away from the marina, but closer to the outpost and meadow pool. If you want a wide site, the 1800 loop pads were just widened and the 1700 loop has wide pads also. The 1600 and 1900 have narrower pads and the 1600 pads don't appear to be as long. It depends on the length that you need. The loops are large and shaded. Also, the premium sites don't have the sand/shell area behind the concrete pad. So, if you want to pitch a tent, screenhouse, etc. it would be difficult. Like was stated, the preferred sites and closer together. We stayed in the 1400 loop before it became a premium loop and we never had a problem with noise because of the movies, etc. The newer part of the 600 loop is wide open with mostly sun and no shade. The premium, preferred, and full hookup sites all have water, electric, sewer, and cable TV. I think it comes down to a personal preference.

lol,lol.....would love the "BEER TAP" hookup, :cool1:

Mom and her side kick are coming along on this FIRST time trip to the Fort, and we are planning on asking for 2 sites, side-by-side....they usually do pop a "shade" tent where we all usually hunker in the shade for some grub ;) Our TT is 24 feet and Mom's is 18 or 19 I believe.

We DO also want to be near the pool, campfire/movie, etc.

Guess I just got confused when I saw the site names listed that way: preferred, premium, full hookups....since I presumed premium, at least, was FULL hookups....lol, lol. AGain, first timers and still learning !!! :goodvibes

Thinking we might just stay put and see how it goes. Thanks ALL. See you on Oct 29th.

Back in may we booked a preferred site but when we showed up they upgraded us to a premium site on the 700 loop. It was great and nice to have the extra concrete. Perfect to the marina and a nice walk to the pool. Will go with premium site in the future
