We travel in Sept and have only gone once in May before.
We are going May 1-8th. and...my concern is...crowds.

its the posted hours for MK that are panicing me. MK is open late every night of our stay and supposedly from another thread we have fireworks 5 out 7 nights.
Now...I am not complaining...but we have gone 9 years in a row and have never had later than 6-7pm closing at MK except for weekends. So.....is this a concern???

nothing I can do...but I would like to be prepared. thanks

This is only a guess, BUT....

The last time you were at the Magic Kingdom, they didn't have Wishes. Unless I'm mistaken, Wishies is a nightly show. Once you hit May, you're in daylight savings time, and it needs to be dark in order for you to see the show, so they have to keep the park open later.

Having said that, I believe it will be somewhat more crowded than if you were to go in September, but nothing you can't handle.

Have a fantastic trip!!!!

I agree with SnackyStacky's ideas. For whatever reasons, Disney is being exceptionally kind and generous in scheduling Wishes nightly (compared with the old fireworks being scheduled 1-2x/wk in the quieter months). Maybe it's in place of E-nights.

We've been there 3x the first week in May and 3x toward the end of September. September was quieter, but hotter and more humid (with more frequent showers). Early May can get to 90 degrees, but was less humid. There was a little longer wait for some rides, but nothing like holiday weekends, school vacations, etc.

I honestly wouldn't worry. We'd be going exactly that time this year if we weren't going with friends in April. It was always a great time of the year for us.

Shoot, May will be a lot less crowded than Christmas week. It should be fine. Use fastpasses, go to EMH at the MK if you are staying on the Disney Property, go early, take a break in the middle of the day, go again in the evening. Don't waste time standing in line.

Take a deep breath and have fun.

I didn't know that Wishes was a nightly show. cool. We have been 9 times...1 July 1 May and 7 Sept. So I know what to do in crowds.

thanks everyone. I just didn't know if the later hours were due to heavy crowds. May is perfect weather compared to Sept.

Don't worry Kim.That first week of May has always been a great time to go.I've been that week several times and loved it! Crowds shouldn't be too bad at all.

Have a magical trip!

I will be there with my family May 8-14th. Spectromagic is only offered a couple of times. I beleive it is on Saturday and Tuesdays. This influenced the way I was planning my trip.

Wishes isn't quite a nightly show. There is no Wishes scheduled for May 1 or 2 (we tried to get a Wishes cruise...no Wishes...no cruise). They do seem to be scheduling it more than they did Fantasy in the Sky, but it is not nightly like Illuminations. We can always hope, though...

We'll be there May 2-12. This will be my third Mother's Day at Disney! Yeah! I have also been there a few times the first week in September. The crowds were lower in Sept., but the early May crowds were easy to handle too. I've never seen Wishes and it's one of the things I'm looking forward to most.

We went at that time 4 years ago and it was great. Epcot was a bit busy with school field trips so you might consider doing it on a weekend. M.K. was very crowded on Friday night with local kids.
It wasn't crowded at all when we went during the day. This time we have to go in late June. I know we have something to worry about with crowds then>
