She's been on all the similac's (except for soy) and nestle goodstart and is so constipated daily that the only time she can go is if I'm wiping her butt to stimulate her!! I feel horrible, her whole living existance (of three months) has been with unhappy poops :sad2: I've even tried the prune juice in her bottle (like the doctor said) and that doesn't do a thing. Help!
Should I switch to soy? Maybe a different formula?

I was going to suggest prune juice. I nursed so we didn't have that problem until about eight months or so, but the prune juice (and prune baby food) worked wonders. What about a bottle here and there with just water? We also used the evil glycerine suppositories. Ick.

MALTSUPEX is a malt molasses laxitive that little babies can use. I used to use it for my son. Ask the pharmacist.

Can I give her just water? I didn't know I could do that? Maybe an ounce, should I?
Thanks!

Baby juice, pear juice :thumbsup2
At her age you might have to dilute it with water. Ask your ped.
I guarantee it will work.
(even works for older kids!)

Once I discovered it I started using it regularly for my daughter.

A little water won't hurt her at all. She will just pee a little more, but hopefully it will help soften things up for her, too. Poor baby. She is adorable and you really feel so helpless when you can't make them feel better.

Hi would give my kids a little white grape juice half water. Then a nice rub on the outer thigh. A Chiropracter told me to do that. Stimulate the Intestents hope I spelled it right. Then a nice warm bath. I hope it helps. Best of luck to you.

I would suggest Miralax. It's super gentle and works really well. It helps the intestines absorb more water so that things can move through better. I've had constipation my whole life and this stuff works really well :thumbsup2 You just put about a cap full into any liquid. It doesn't taste like anything so she'll never know

We used to do syrup water. A little KARO and cool water mixed together did the trick. Then we immediately did formula afterwards. Best of luck, I know it sucks for your little one, and for momma too!

Bless your heart - this made me smile.

When I was a new mom I got one of those goodie bags from the hospital. One of the items was a 4 ounce bottle of water, with a cap on it. I had NO IDEA what to do with it and finally threw it away about 2 or 3 months later.

I think it wasn't until my next child - five years later - that I got another goodie bag and by that time I knew it was just a bottle of water to give the baby if she seemed fussy or thirsty and wasn't in the mood for a full bottle of milk.

Hope your baby feels better soon!!!

I don't know if this will help but try warming the prune juice. After my last baby I could not leave the hospital until I had a BM. I had tried several things to no avail when an older lady (aide) suggested WARM prune juice. Worked like a charm.

Good luck. Poor little sweetie, I hope she soon feels better.

My daughter was just like that. My pediatrician switched us to low iron forumla and that fixed the problem right away. I would talk to your dr first before you do that.

are they hard pellet stools or is she just not going? babies, even formula fed, don't need to go daily.

I'd stop the stimulation and see if she goes w/in a few days if it isn't hard pellets.

for hard pellets I'd try some extra water or some watered down juice.

The pear juice is a winner. We had tons of problems with my son when he was younger and his doc suggested the pear juice, she says it's actually better than prune juice for constipation. Also have you tried letting her sit/lay in a warm bath when you suspect she's trying? This also helps to relax the muscles and makes it a bit easier for them. However, like the pp said babies don't always go everyday so if it isn't pellets when she goes then she likely isn't actually constipated. Good luck

DS used to pass out after a BM & they would be perfectly round. So we switched to the low iron it helped, but he was not fussy & he did have a BM daily. When he got older he ate baby prunes & stayed away from rice cereal & bananas.

When DD (9) was a baby we were told to use 1 tsp of Karo syrup, I thought it was in EVERY bottle until she pooped...well....she had the rawest tush I ever saw, once it started working LOOK OUT! So when she got constipated we just put 1 tsp in ONE bottle and there was Poop shortly thereafter!!!

Yes to this. Just because she isn't pooping every day doesn't mean she is constipated. If she has really hard stools, THAT means she is constipated.

What does the ped say?

they are hard as a rock get stuck in her butt poops. I will try everything here, but maybe its a dangerous condition and maybe i should call the dr??? I dont know i'm all new at this!!

It isn't dangerous unless her bottom is bleeding (could get infected) but it does make you feel very, very helpless. Talk to your doctor about using the glycerine suppositories for babies. You can get them off the shelf at the pharmacy and they work very quickly. I tried not to use them often when my girls were babies because it just felt wrong, but they are safe.

Yup, call the doctor - perhaps there's more than meets the eye here.
I'd suggest whatever method(s) you're planning to try with the doc first and see what he/she thinks before trying anything suggested here.
